Ball State collected three medals during three days of competition in Ocala, Florida. Meanwhile, for diving, sophomore Porter Brovont traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to participate in the one-meter and three-meter events in the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships.
Although Ball State did not claim the illustrious MAC Championship finishing fifth overall as a team, there is no doubt that the showing is promising for the future of the team going into next season.
As Ball State prepares for the MAC Championships, the opportunity has arrived for the underclassmen to take the mantle as leaders.
The women’s team claimed a win against Bellarmine (145.5-58.5) while the men’s team suffered a loss to end the season against Southern Illinois (181-118).
Despite the men’s team losing to Miami (OH), the women’s team took the bigger blow, as they traveled to Athens, Ohio for a battle of undefeated with Ohio University and took a massive 219-81 defeat at the hands of the Bobcats.
In a battle of the birds, Ball State’s dreams of a perfect season in duels went up in smoke as the RedHawks took the meet in their men’s team’s first conference duel win of the season (190.00-110.00). The loss keeps the men’s team winless against Miami in duels in over two decades with their last win against the RedHawks being in 2002.
Despite only taking a handful of swimmers to the invitational and skipping day one of the competition, Ball State performed well with the underclassmen for the Cardinals and stamping more records for the program record book in Minneapolis.
The women’s teams finished as the champions in the House of Champions Invitational with a total team score of 1,122. The men’s team finished in second place (1,108) behind IUPUI (1,383.5).
The Cardinals now sit with an undefeated 3-0 in duel meets this season along with 2-0 against Mid-American Conference opponents this season.
“We knew coming in that it was going to be a dogfight,” head coach J. Agnew said. “They are really well coached. I feel like both teams have very strong senior classes and so we knew it was going to be a battle, so it is nice to come up on top on senior night.”
