Worthen Arena was filled with red and white March 25 as No. 9 Ball State men’s volleyball (17-6, 9-2 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) hosted No. 1 Ohio State (19-3, 10-1 MIVA).
After recording 35 kills last week, junior outside attacker Brendan Surane was named Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association's offensive player of the week. Surane led the Cardinals in kills during both of the team's games against Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne and the University of California Irvine. In his first match against in-state rival IPFW on March 16, Surane had 13 kills and three block assists along with five digs.

That season was also the last the time Ball State defeated Loyola, Lewis and Ohio State in the first matchup against each team in a single season until this year. After defeating No. 11 Loyola and No. 14 Lewis last week, No. 9 Ball State moved its way into the NCAA men’s volleyball top-10 rankings.
Shane Witmer has always made his teammates laugh. A jokester, he calls himself. Witmer was a four-year starter for the Ball State men’s volleyball team.
