Coming into Saturday’s IHSAA Class 4A Volleyball State Championship game, MaxPreps ranked Hamilton Southeastern fourth in the nation and Yorktown fifth; the teams had a combined record of 67-3 this season. They already met this season before this championship showdown; a 5-set encounter that saw Hamilton Southeastern come away with a win.

“I'm so excited for our kids and for our program,” head coach Mike Wilhelm said. “We talked with this group about being champions months ago, because we knew we had the ingredients to be a championship team. But we had to grow and we learned from our losses and from some of our weaknesses throughout the year. I think we corrected those and that's how you become a championship team.”
Heading into the final road trip of the year, Ball State commands its own destiny. If the Cardinals can win two out of their three remaining games, the Cardinals will claim the MAC regular season title uncontested by Bowling Green, who is currently 2.5 games behind. With the regular season title, the MAC tournament would be played from Worthen Arena and Ball State would have home court advantage throughout.
“Now we have reached out and we’re working with D.C.S. and Meridian Services here at Delaware County,” Gibson said, “just trying to get a further reach for our program and help more people.”
“We change those [displays] out about every month,” said Kate West, one of three Beeman Assistants. “We keep up with different events and themes throughout the year.”
The Cardinals celebrate with chocolate milk and music on their bus ride back to the hotel. While enjoying their post-game drink the Cardinals sang out Mood by 24kGoldn, a song that Ball State soccer has had in their minds for almost two years.
For the fourth time in five years, Ball State Women’s Volleyball has reached 20 wins in a season. The Cardinals achieved this feat thanks to a sweep of a deep Kent State team that has had five players win Mid-American Conference (MAC) East Division Player of the Week honors throughout the season.
“Like Coach Sallee said, the work that has been put in is more than I can explain. It just feels surreal to be back out there and I am just ecstatic,” Clephane said.

Gamma Theta Upsilon hosted a 'Geo-Jeopardy' fundraiser for their trip to the American Geography Association Conference hosted in Detroit, Michigan.
“He definitely makes the day go by fast, sometimes I find myself talking to him while we are driving, and asking him what he’s thinking and then I laugh,” Money said.
“Most of us will get chairs, use two chairs, put our heads on the table. We typically don’t sleep until like 3 a.m. because it’s high energy,” Martin said.
