Ball State community members gathered in the Korsgaard Dance Studio at Ball Gym for “Rainbow Night,” a performance-based event hosted by Alpha Psi Omega (APO).
Bodies rush around a set stage, placing props at the top of the show. Giggles reverberate through the black box theatre as busy hands braid hair and place finishing touches on costumes.
Ball State alumnus Jake Letts (School of Theatre and Dance, '21) passed through Indianapolis with the traveling company of the Aladdin musical North American tour. He shares his humble beginnings and how he got to the stage he finds himself in now.
“It’s all the stories that we know and love and the childhood fairy tales that we grew up with … and so, kind of seeing them in a new way is really exciting,” said Payten Romig, third-year student assistant director of "Into the Woods." The unique direction of BSU School of Theatre and Dance's latest production tells an old story to a new generation with renewed depth.
John Marsh, a Ball State/Indiana Academy history professor and Jenni Marsh, president and CEO of Heart of Indiana United Way, moonlight as a dynamic playwright duo. Their newest work, "Cat's Pajamas," premiered as a staged reading on Oct. 20.
As a huge fan of Starkid Productions, I anxiously anticipated the YouTube release of their newest show, The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals, for months. I was honestly prepared to be disappointed; after their last show, Firebringer, I wasn’t expecting much. However, this show exceeded my expectations and evoked the infectiously fun and campy feeling of earlier Starkid shows like A Very Potter Musical and Starship.
The show itself will not feature any dialogue at all — it's all singing and dancing. The music performances are a huge part of "Swing!" and are reflected both in the show and in the set.
