Pro-life group returns to campus

A new student organization wants to help women learn about their options during pregnancy. Students for Life, a group that strives to educate people about abortion and pregnancy, is working to make a resurgence on campus for the first time since 2003. Senior group member Katie Conrad said the group is not about abortion and pregnancy issues alone; it strives to educate students about relationships and human interaction as well.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals make return into top 15 coaches poll

Three wins in five days was all it took to get the Ball State University men's volleyball team back in the national rankings. After a week absence from the top 15 coaches poll, the Cardinals were ranked No. 14 in the newest poll released Monday. Ball State received 24 votes - 10 more votes than in last week's poll.

This was her representation of activist Rufina Amaya, the only survivor of the massacre of El Mozote, El Salvador.

Study: More students using smartphones

They may cost several hundred dollars, but more college students are willing to pay for smartphones than other demographics, according to a Ball State University study released this morning. The study - which surveyed 300 college students - found that 27 percent of the participants owned smartphones, which is 8 percent higher than the national average.

GYMNASTICS: Three Cards qualify for NCAA regionals

Three Ball State University gymnasts posted scores high enough throughout the season to allow them to continue their seasons at the NCAA Central Regional Championship April 4 in Columbus, Ohio. Brittney Emmons, Teresa Phipps and Bibiana Rodriguez will represent the Cardinals at the regional meet at Ohio State's St.

For the first time this season, a Ball State University baseball player was not named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, but sophomore Kolbrin Vitek did garner West Division Pitcher of the Week Monday. Vitek made two starts last week and had a 0.

Program aims to become department

Hoping to compete with graduates from other universities, several women's studies students have joined a movement to promote the program to department status. Ball State senior women's studies and psychology major Kristin Marie Larson recently started a Facebook group called "Make Women's Studies a Department!!" with the hope of drawing awareness to the cause.

SOFTBALL: Cards set to play in-state foes

After having its first weekend off in more than a month, the Ball State University softball team heads back to the field with a pair of mid-week games. The Cardinals head to the University of Notre Dame to take on the Fighting Irish and they play host to IUPUI Wednesday.

Dresses provided at low cost

Long gowns, short cocktail dresses, ruffles, sparkles, sequins and dresses of all colors surrounded Emily Huffer, Yorktown high school senior, as she searched for a prom dress Saturday afternoon at Cinderella's Closet, an event at the Alumni Center. Ball State University's Fashion Merchandising Association sponsored the event to collect used dresses from around Muncie and sell them back to girls from local high schools at a lower price.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Fifth game no longer worry for Cardinals

Coach Joel Walton could not have felt more relieved as he left the arena Saturday night. After three failed attempts last week, the Ball State University men's volleyball team won a decisive fifth game to beat an opponent. Finishing the match on a 7-2 run, Ball State defeated George Mason University 19-30, 32-30, 30-27, 28-30, 15-6 in Fairfax, Va.

March is National Women's History Month, and in celebration of the experiences of women, the Ball State women's studies program is offering its 22nd Women's Week of events. Julee Rosser, interim director of the women's studies program, said the events "encourage more communication and connection.

The Ball State University men's tennis team escaped from Terre Haute with a win Sunday. Ball State defeated Indiana State University 5-2, despite the winless Sycamores coming within two third-set tie breakers of a victory. "I expected a close match," coach Bill Richards said.

GYMNASTICS: Home advantage not there for BSU

One hundred twenty-five gymnasts gathered in Worthen Arena on Saturday afternoon for the 2009 Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championships. Ball State University (4-12, 1-5 MAC) posted a team score of 191.675 and tied for fifth place with Eastern Michigan University.
