Ball State study largest of its kind

A study conducted by Ball State University and Sequent Partners on behalf of Nielson and the Council for Research Excellence dismisses several popular beliefs about video media use. Results of the $3.5 million Video Consuming Mapping study were released Thursday in New York's Life-Time Building.

From midnight Friday until midnight Saturday, Something Else TV will be producing 24 sketches in 24 hours to benefit Riley's Children Hospital. Executive Producer Nick Reczynski said the group is determined to get it done. But when it was first suggested, he considered the feat nearly impossible.

FOOTBALL: Cardinals 2009 schedule features multiple ESPN games

After finishing the 2008 regular season undefeated, the Ball State University football team now knows who it will have to beat if it wants to accomplish the feat again in 2009. Ball State announced its 2009 schedule Thursday, which includes at least two nationally televised games.

Car accident alters life path for senior

Senior chemistry major Jeff Snell's first choice for college was not Ball State University. When Snell was in high school he was accepted to the Air Force Academy but broke his back in a car accident. Snell said he started Ball State in the spring but missed nine weeks of class throughout the year so he could travel to Russia for stem cell procedures.

LSU to host sex-themed show

The Latino Student Association will have a dinner theatre that will feature "-S-E-X-OH!," a presentation about the taboos of sex. The show will be performed by Teatro Luna, an all-Latina Chicago-based theatre group. "-S-E-X-OH!" will be attracting a younger crowd, LSU President Irais Ferraira said.

Shafer Tower namesake dies at 93

Hamer Shafer was humble, but Ball State University dedicated a 150-foot bell tower in his honor. Shafer, who along with his wife, Phyllis, is the namesake of Shafer Tower. He died at age 93 Wednesday in Muncie. The Muncie philanthropist began his career of more than 70 years as the first employee of Muncie Power Products Inc.

BASEBALL: Ball State cannot get win No. 200 for coach vs. ISU

The Ball State University baseball team missed some classes on Wednesday afternoon for its game at Indiana State University, but the Sycamores made sure the Cardinals still got a lesson. Ball State lost 14-6 after giving up eight runs in the first three innings.

Storm descends on Ball State

The College of Communication, Information, and Media presented Letterman Lecture Series speaker Brian Storm to speak about multimedia storytelling in the age of emerging media. CCIM Dean Roger Lavery said MediaStorm, an Emmy award-winning multimedia journalism Web site founded by Storm, is a model of how reporters, producers and photojournalists may be practicing their trade in the future.

Zombie apocalypse to begin today

An insane atomic terrorist set off Muncie's nuclear reactor, twisting people into blood-thirsty zombies. The game begins for the surviving humans today. This semester's Humans vs. Zombies game is based on this attack, and today is the first official day of the fourth installment of the game at Ball State University.

With only a few games remaining before the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Quarterfinals and Championships, the men's 4-3 conference record must be improved if they hope to contend for a MIVA Championship.

After students' inboxes were bombarded with campus e-mails Tuesday, members of University Marketing and Communications have made corrections to the Campus Bulletin Board program. The bulletin board application is part of Ball State University's Communications Center, which launched March 16.

Fans choicePORCHIA GREEN With a record 112 votes and 93 percent of the vote, women's basketball player Porchia Green won this week's Fan Choice Player of the Week. Green had 103 votes more than the other four nominees combined, making for the most lopsided win in the history of the online vote.

SOFTBALL: Ball State beats IUPUI, prepares for MAC play

A pair of home runs proved insufficient in stopping the Ball State University softball team from beating IUPUI Wednesday. The Cardinals (10-13) bounced back from a four-error, 5-1 loss to the University of Notre Dame Tuesday by committing no errors in a 5-4 win against IUPUI (3-26) Wednesday.

Students have a chance to see Ball State University Dance Theatre do a different kind of show today as it will incorporate more technology into the performance. "Dance Revelations," a show that combines dance choreography and technology, premieres today at the University Theatre.

Muncie Liquors employee Chris "Bubba" Smith dies

The man behind the counter at the Muncie Liquors at Wheeling and Riverside avenues for the past 16 years, Chris "Bubba" Smith, died early Tuesday. General manager of Muncie Liquors Chris Johnson said family and friends haven't received autopsy results, but said he believed Smith had a heart attack.

McKinley Mile ready to go

The Office of Student Life is gearing up for the McKinley Mile bike race and day of events. Graduate assistant Kristan Kanorr said the race wouldn't be divided by gender this year, but the men and women will still be judged separately. Doc's on Dill asked Ball State University's American Advertising Federation to plan and promote an unofficial McKinley Mile after party, Jeff Renoe, senior advertising major and AAF president, said.
