For the second straight weekend, the Ball State University soccer team has failed to get a win. Ball State fell to the University of Akron 3-0 on Sunday afternoon, their fifth-consecutive loss.
Stan Parrish looked over his play sheet at halftime Saturday and made the decision to scrap much of it.Ball State University was trailing Bowling Green State University 24-0 at the time and would have to finish the game without Kelly Page, who injured his right thumb. So despite needing to throw the ball to try and score quickly, Parrish played to his team's strength.
The Ball State University women's golf team failed to defend its title of champion at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate Tournament by finishing in 7th place Sunday.

However, coach Stan Parrish said Mershman would not have played Saturday if backup Tanner Justice had gone down in the second half.

Sean Baker was determined to not let a broken hand slow him down.The safety suffered the injury during Ball State University's game at Army and finished the game anyway. He begged coach Stan Parrish to let him play the next week at Auburn University, but Parrish held him out. Baker was back the next week with a large protective cast on his right hand.

Northern Arizona University plays host to six Mid-American Conference teams along with three Big Ten teams. The Cardinals played in this same tournament almost exactly a year ago, finishing in a tie for ninth out of 18 teams.
Freshman forward Jarrod Jones scored eight points in Ball State University's 64-52 loss to the University at Buffalo in the Mid-American Conference Tournament Semifinals. It wasn't enough to propel the Cardinals into the finals, but Jones climbed to fourth place on Ball State's all-time freshman scoring list. With 28 points in two games in Cleveland, Jones finishes his first season with 346 points, moving ahead of Randy Boarden.
The MAC All-Tournament Teams were also announced following the game. Bowing Green State University's Nate Miller, Buffalo's Max Boudreau and Akron's Steve McNees, Brett McKnight and Linhart formed the five-man team, and Linhart took home Tournament MVP honors.
The Ball State University gymnastics team will head to East Lansing, Mich., Sunday for a 2 p.m. meeting with Michigan State University and the University of California, Berkeley. The Cardinals (3-9, 1-5 Mid-American Conference) enter the meet averaging a team score of 191.
No. 14 Ball State lost to No. 10 Lewis 30-23, 26-30, 28-30, 30-25, 19-17 on Friday in Romeoville, Ill.
Lewellen Pool was fairly quiet this week except for the occasional splash from the diving well. Lisa Maertin is the only member of the Ball State University swimming and diving team still competing after qualifying for the NCAA Zone Diving Championship. It is the second time the junior diver has qualified for the event.
