WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards play host to MAC favorite Toledo in early league test

Toledo (13-3, 3-0 Mid-American Conference) enters today's game as the favorite. The Rockets were picked the preseason favorite in the MAC and have flexed their muscle this season. Their big win this season was over No. 20 University of Dayton. Toledo enters the contest on a five-game winning streak.

At approximately 950 miles away, the trip to Durham, N.H. from Muncie represents the farthest that the squad will be away from its nest this season. The extended travel will be unique for the team. The Cardinals will fly to the meet, which allows the team to take only its competitors, coach Nadalie Walsh said.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Improving defense a key for Cards

Sure, there were positives with forward Emily Maggert eclipsing the 1,000 point mark for her career and the offense recording 80 points, but the negatives outweighed the positives for Ball State University Coach Kelly Packard and her team. Ball State fell to 7-8, 2-1 on the season, but may get a break from a challenging schedule Friday when they host Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (3-15).

Entering Saturday's meet at Bowling Green State University, it returns some talented upperclassmen, such as All-Mid-American Conference honorees Ali Bishel, Brittany Ade and Katie Johnson. But the team also has 17 freshmen on the roster.

FOOTBALL: Pair of Cards named Academic All-MAC

Kicker Ian McGarvey and wide receiver Briggs Orsbon were named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team on Tuesday. Athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of their team's games and have at least a 3.2 GPA.
