Close fourth quarter slips away from Cardinals

DEKALB, Ill. – Ball State’s Jonathan Newsome had Jordan Lynch dead to rights in the backfield, wrapped up for a loss on a third and 11. Unbelievably, yet somehow unsurprisingly, Northern Illinois University’s senior quarterback made something out of nothing and escaped for a first down as he has done all game and all season. The Huskies marched down the field and scored a touchdown on the drive, taking the lead. Northern Illinois wouldn’t trail for the remainder of the game as it beat Ball State, 48-27. The play was one of the first things Ball State head coach Pete Lembo mentioned following the game. “Newsome didn’t bring him down,” Lembo said.

For the third straight year, Northern Illinois beat Ball State, this time with the 48-27. The score was deadlocked heading into the fourth quarter, but Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch mastered a drive late in the quarter for the game-deciding touchdown.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Fuelling fights through injury

After injuring her ankle in practice earlier this season, recovering physically has only been half the battle for Alex Fuelling. When the sophomore outside hitter took the court against the University of Toledo on Tuesday, being physically ready was only the start of being fully healthy. “I wanted to worry about how to attack Toledo and less about my ankle,” Fuelling said after the match.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State tries to put losing streak behind it

A two-match losing streak isn’t usually something to be concerned about. It’s just unfamiliar territory for the Ball State women’s volleyball team, considering the standards the players set since the Mid-American Conference portion of the schedule began. “We need to refocus,” sophomore outside hitter Alex Fuelling said.

Sallee's team opens regular season with loss

Wanting a tougher non-conference schedule, Ball State women’s basketball head coach Brady Sallee got that when his team opened the season on the road against Purdue University. The team fell short on Sunday with a final score of 57-63.

Jason Whitlock, Brady Hoke fund bus trip for students to attend Wednesday's game

State play Northern Illinois University. What the ESPN sportswriter is sure of, though, is Ball State alumni need to do their part to support the university — even if that support doesn’t garnish the same level of attention that he and the family of Brady Hoke generated this week. By donating $5,000 each, the pairing helped fund a bus trip for 240 students to Wednesday’s game.
