Coming into the Jan. 30 match-up at Worthen Arena, both Ball State and Akron sat in second place in each division of the Mid-American Conference. Akron's shooting attack led the Zips to a 73-65 victory over the Cardinals.
Four Cardinal baseball players — all juniors — have been named top 300 prospects by D1baseball.com. Right-handed pitcher Zach Plesac was the highest-ranked Cardinal at No. 133, right fielder Alex Call was ranked 199th, shortstop Alex Maloney was 242nd and catcher Jarett Rindfleisch was No. 254.
The Ball State men’s swimming and diving team will close out its last road meet of the regular season when they travel to take on Evansville at 4 p.m. on Jan. 29.

Ball State gymnastics outgrew its previous home in Irving Gym, located in the Jo Ann Gora Student Recreation and Wellness Center, so it moved locations this season. The team now performs at Worthen Arena, like many other athletic teams at Ball State. “I was hoping that when we got down there, we would have more of an event-type atmosphere, and that has definitely happened,” head coach Joanna Saleem said. “You can turn the lights off and [make use of] the spotlights. I love that it is fun for the crowd to be able to participate. It is important for the fans to enjoy the event and want to come back”.
Keith Wenning and Willie Snead made history together playing in a Ball State uniform. Together, the duo racked up the completions, yards and touchdowns, becoming one of the most prolific quarterback-receiver combos in the nation. Now they're both playing in the NFL, Wenning with the Cincinnati Bengals and Snead with the New Orleans Saints.
When the final buzzer sounded on Jan. 26, Buffalo guard Lamonte Bearden finished with 18 points, six assists and four steals against the Ball State men's basketball team.

Two Mid-American Conference basketball officials have been suspended for two games following Ball State's 88-87 double-overtime win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday, according to an official statement from the conference. The statement says the officials made "several errors committed" during the game.
