Players, students and alumni respond to men's basketball loss

Before the 2015-16 men's basketball season began, Ball State was picked to finish last in the Mid-American Conference by the MAC preseason poll. Ball State finished its season on March 23 in a 67-69 loss to Columbia in the quarterfinal match of the CollegeInsider.com Invitational Tournament.

Brendan Surane wins MIVA Offensive Player of the Week

After recording 35 kills last week, junior outside attacker Brendan Surane was named Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association's offensive player of the week. Surane led the Cardinals in kills during both of the team's games against Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne and the University of California Irvine. In his first match against in-state rival IPFW on March 16, Surane had 13 kills and three block assists along with five digs.

Ball State baseball erases 7-run deficit, beat Purdue 9-8

Ball State (12-10) baseball came back from a seven run deficit to beat in-state rival Purdue (4-13). In the bottom of the second inning, the Cardinals trailed 7-0 but came back to score all nine of its runs over the next three innings. In the second, Mid-American Conference player of the week and junior outfielder Matt Eppers doubled to right center to score junior shortstop Alex Maloney for the Cardinals first run of the game.

Ball State softball goes 2-0 in rainy weekend

What was supposed to be a four-game tournament turned into two after the Ball State softball tournament had two games rained out on March 19 in College Park, Maryland. Senior pitcher Nicole Steinbach posted a complete game shutout in the Cardinals' 2-0 win over Massachusetts.

Eppers named MAC West Player of the Week

Junior center fielder Matt Eppers was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week after going 8-13 at the plate in a four-game series against Dayton this weekend. Eppers was a perfect 4-4 at the plate in Sunday's 3-1 loss. Head coach Rich Maloney said "it was one of the best games he's ever played." "I'm certainly happy for him and his star sure shined today," he said after the game. Eppers also scored the lone Cardinals' run in the game.

Nicole Steinbach wins 3rd MAC West Pitcher of the Week award

Ball State senior pitcher Nicole Steinbach won her third Mid-American Conference West Pitcher of the Week award this season. Over the weekend of March 18-20, Steinbach pitched against Massachusetts and Boston at the Maryland Tournament. She collected two wins to add to her team high total of eleven.

Ball State qualifies 5 gymnasts for regional competition

Ball State gymnastics had five individual gymnasts qualify for the National Collegiate Athletic Association Iowa City Regional. The five gymnasts who will be competing at the University of Iowa on April 2 include: senior Denasiha Christian, juniors Sarah Ebeyer and Kayla Beckler, as well as sophomores Baylee Bell and Jordyn Penny. Throughout the 2016 regular season, each one of the Cardinals' qualifiers competed in at least two of the team's events at each meet. As a team, the Cardinals broke the school record in the Mid-American Conference Championships with a score of 195.650. At Regional's, these five gymnasts will compete individually.
