The No. 6 Cardinals fell to the No. 1 Redhawks 8-0 in the MAC title game. It's the farthest the Cardinals have advanced in the tournament since 2015.
No. 6 Ball State defeated No. 5 Central Michigan, No. 4 Toledo and No. 2 Ohio Friday to advance to the title game of the Mid-American Conference Championship. The Cardinals will face the No. 1 Miami Redhawks. If Ball State was to win, a second game will need to be played due to the Redhawks undefeated tournament record.
After falling to the Bobcats, the Cardinals now face elimination. They will return to Fire Stone Stadium tomorrow to face No. 5 Central Michigan at 10:30 a.m.
Junior Maddie Weaver led the Cardinals with three RBIs and two hits.
Ball State will face Western Michigan in the Cardinals first contest in the Mid-American Conference. The Broncos are the only team the red and black did not face in the regular season.
In its final regular season series of the 2024 season, Ball State defeated Central Michigan 2-1. The win gave the Cardinals a berth into the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
The championship game was set, Tigers vs. Warriors for the 2024 Delaware County crown. By the end of the afternoon, it was Yorktown running away, taking a 10-0 victory over the Warriors.
Ball State will end it's regular season with a three-game series at Central Michigan. The Cardinals are currently the No. 6 team in the Mid-American Conference while the Chippewas are the No. 5 seed.
A packed senior class has helped lead Ball State to success on the field and in the locker room.
In the loss to the Boilermakers, the Cardinals only recorded one hit, which was a solo home run from senior Kaitlyn Mathews. Ball State finished its 2024 non-conference season with a 13-14 record.
“It was a difference maker,” Ball State head coach Helen Peña said. “We were sitting around the same number as Akron and we needed it. But also just creating momentum going into our midweeks and our last few conference series.”
Miami (OH) swept Ball State softball in a Mid-American Conference doubleheader April 16. Ball State heads back home to First Merchants Ballpark for a three-game series against the Akron Zips, which begins on April 20 with the first pitch set for 1 p.m.
Ball State swept Bowling Green to make it back-to-back Mid-American Conference series victories for the Cardinals. The red and black are now on a five-game win streak.
Delaware County high school softball coaches have given their picks for the players they expect to contribute this season.

With the motto “small school, big opportunities,” the Wes-Del Warriors continue to upgrade their athletics program by using a a four-phase plan.
Multiple former Cardinals have played women’s sports professionally while current Ball State student-athletes look towards the same goal.
In Ball State's second Mid-American Conference series of the 2024 season, the Cardinals were swept by Kent State at the First Merchants Ballpark Complex.
Ball State went 3-2 in the Cardinals' final non-conference tournament of the season.
