Ball State Softball (25-10, 3-0 MAC) proved to be the dominate team from start to finish in their double header against Akron (6-14-2, 0-3 MAC), picking up 13-1 and 9-1 wins over the Zips on Saturday.
It was an emotional afternoon inside Worthen Arena Saturday as No. 15 Ball State (13-11, 4-5 MIVA) closed out the home portion of its regular-season schedule. The Cardinals welcomed No. 7 Lewis (18-5, 9-1 MIVA), who were coming into the match on an 11-match win streak.
Three times in the first four innings senior John Ricotta came up to bat with two outs and runners on base. Three times he came through with an RBI hit. Ricotta finished the game 4 for 5 with four runs driven in, and his performance at the plate highlighted Ball State’s (14-9, 2-0 MAC) 10-3 win over Western Michigan (6-15, 0-2 MAC) Saturday.
With wind gusts blowing upwards of 15 mph to right field, Friday was not an ideal day for pitchers as Ball State (13-9, 1-0 MAC) and Western Michigan (6-14, 0-1 MAC) squared off. Each team connected for a pair of home runs, and the Cardinals wound up on top, 8-5.
Ball State Softball (23-10, 1-0 MAC) pull out the eight-run rule for a 14-6 victory over the Zips. Sophomore Stacy Payton highlighted the win, batting in five over the course of six innings.
