BSU searches for associate provost

In the continuing reorganization of administration at Ball State University, Provost Terry King is searching for an associate provost and dean of University College. The person selected will be in charge of undergraduate affairs and organization for University College, King said.

GYMNASTICS: Ball State drops first meet to OSU

The 2007 Ball State University gymnastics season kicked off Saturday at Ohio State University. Coach Lisa Simonton and her young Cardinals lost 185.175 to 193.625. This season the Cardinals have 12 true freshmen on the team, and Simonton believes that a big part of this first meet was to get the freshmen in-tune with the upperclassmen.

When Irvin Berlin wrote "A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody," he must have been writing about Nicole Rash, who sang her way to the top of the Miss Ball State University Scholarship Pageant. While trying to mask nervous stutters and fluidly answer impromptu questions, 23 contestants competed for the title of Miss Ball State University 2007.

On Saturday, the parents of two young boys kidnapped four years apart near St. Louis learned that hope truly does spring eternal. Ben Ownby, 13, was kidnapped less than a week ago soon after leaving his school bus. Police followed a lead on a truck seen leaving the scene and found more than they bargained for when the truck led them to a home where Ownby was being held along with 15-year-old Shawn Hornbeck.

SWIMMING AND DIVING: Teams test Eastern Michigan

Co-coaches Laura Seibold-Caudill and Bob Thomas expected a highly competitive meet Saturday against Eastern Michigan University, and that's exactly what they got. The women's team lost the meet by a final score of 141.5 to 158.5, and the difference was the outcome in just one race according to Seibold-Caudill.

Legacy of freedom

Even after his death, Louis E. Ingelhart's voice filled Hazelwood Christian Church on Thursday. Recordings of two poems, written and read by Ingelhart, were played at his funeral service. Among a crowd of more than 100 people, tears of remembrance fell and echoes of laughter filled the room from mourners who knew him best.

MEN'S TENNIS: Coach expects weekend wins

This weekend, coach Bill Richards expects the men's tennis team to win - even after a three month layoff. Ball State University will play two home matches this weekend, one against IUPUI Saturday, and the other against DePaul University, Sunday. After an impressive fall season, senior Joe Epkey and juniors Jarrod Epkey and Aaron Philips will enter the spring season as the top three players for the Cardinals, Richards said.

Muncie residents protest Bush's plan

Protestors against President Bush's new Iraq war plan were left out in the cold Thursday afternoon when a rally was met with few student participation. At a second rally later that night, however, organizers were able to draw a larger crowd from local Muncie residents.
