Dance majors will present choreography works of their own creation as part of the Junior Choreography Showcase, sponsored by the Ball State University Department of Theater and Dance. Three is sometimes considered a crowd, but a Philadelphia trio has made the number work for them. The classically-trained Time for Three will perform at 7 p.m. in Pruis Hall. Violinists Nicholas Kendall and Zachary DePue and double bassist Rannan Meyer attended the Curtis Institute of Music.

On-campus housing fills fast at BSU

Park Hall may have had a major influence on the number of students returning to the dorms this fall. This year, 340 more students have applied to live in the dorms than last year. Alan Hargrave, associate dean of Student Affairs and director of Housing and Residence Life, said the percentage of students signed up, is higher than the past several years.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State goes on offensive

A huge matchup with MIVA leader Ohio State University looms next weekend for the Ball State University men's volleyball team. However, this weekend the team needs to take care of business before it can focus on the Buckeyes. On Friday, the Cardinals (8-6, 3-1 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) will make a six-hour trip to play Quincy University in a conference tilt before traveling to Carthage College Saturday.

Trailing 41-32 at halftime of Wednesday's game against Northern Illinois University, senior point guard Kelsey Corbin knew her team needed to get out to quick start in the opening minutes of the second half. MEN'S BASKETBALL: BSU looks to avoid 20th loss

With a school-record 20 losses on the line, Ball State University's men's basketball team is looking for a win against one of the Mid-American Conference's top teams. The Cardinals (9-19, 5-9 MAC) will travel to Savage Hall to play the University of Toledo (16-11, 12-2 MAC), where they have not won since 2002.

Ball State University is launching the second national search this year for a dean, as another one announced she is leaving her position. Lynn Richardson, Miller College of Business dean, announced she accepted the position of dean of the College of Business and Industry at Mississippi State University on Tuesday.

TOWARD DISRESPECTFUL AUTHORITY: Students should pay attention to important news

Reading up on current events online a couple of weekends ago, I came across a striking picture depicting a two U.S. soldiers in Mosul, Iraq. What really caught my attention was an M16 rifle lying in the forefront of the picture in the sand. Although a soldier may not wear body armor or a helmet or carry a gas mask for certain missions, nearly nothing will persuade him to leave his personal weapon.

The Ball State University softball team has some bright spots to build on Saturday and Sunday after struggling in its previous weekend. The Cardinals (3-7) will look to reduce their defensive mistakes and continue to hit well at The Kay Brechtelsbauer Southern Classic this weekend.

IU to name new president

Indiana University trustees were expected to name the university's top academic officer as its new president Thursday, according to media reports. Sources close to the presidential search told The Indianapolis Star and WISH-TV that Michael McRobbie, IU's interim provost since January 2006, would be named President Adam Herbert's successor at a trustees meeting.

BASEBALL: Lack of confidence leads to struggles

With a 1-6 record, the Ball State University baseball team will go into this weekend looking to start a winning streak similar to one that helped lead the Cardinals to a Mid-American Conference Championship last season. In 2006 the team went 38-22, including 16-9 in the MAC, winning the MAC Tournament by defeating Kent State University in back-to-back games and reaching the NCAA Regional.

Speech team wins state championship

The Ball State University speech team won the Indiana state championship for the third year in a row last weekend, sweeping the competition. The nine team members traveled to Butler University on Feb. 17, where they beat eight other universities and about 100 students, Mary Moore, team coach and communications studies professor, said.

Junior Jimmy Brannon first started playing tennis when he was 5 years old with his family.-áAt Oak Hills High School in Ohio, Brannon holds the record for most matches won in the No. 1 singles position. So when he decided to attend Ball State University to play men's tennis, he never thought he would see his first spring action his junior season.

Fraternity holds open-mic poetry readings

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. is doing open-mic poetry reading in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Forum Room from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. As an added twist, an artist will sketch what each poet says during the readings, event organizer Paul Best said. The poetry reading is part of the fraternity's first week of events in six years, he said.
