Authors to offer insight

Upon arriving at Ball State University, Jill Christman, assistant professor of English and chair of the creative writing program, recognized a "gap" in the department. The gap lay in the student's knowledge about writing and publishing. To help remedy the issue, Christman began a program similar to one that worked at one of her previous jobs.

University to demolish more houses

Several Ball State University students who live on Marsh Street and Neely Avenue have to find new places to live because the university is demolishing their houses to make room for North Residence Hall. A demolition crew tore down five houses as of Monday afternoon and three more will be demolished by Friday, said Jim Lowe, director of engineering and operations.

TURNING A BLIND EYE: Voters should support police

Indiana State Police is looking for a helping hand in its attempts to keep up with the technology criminals use to evade detection. Senate Bill 411, which is now in the Indiana House, would give State Police authority to listen in on cell phone calls and intercept other electronic communications, such as e-mail.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Foundation made for further success

Ball State University's women's basketball team's season is over due to the 85-82 loss to the University of Kentucky Monday, but a potential positive for the Cardinals in lieu of the loss will be the return of four starters from a team that finished 24-7. Leading scorer and rebounder Julie DeMuth should return along with Lisa Rusche, Porchia Green and Audrey McDonald.

Cardinal teams travel country during break with mixed results

BASEBALL The Ball State University baseball team played eight games over Spring Break, going 5-3. In the Myrtle Beach Hyundai-Isuzu Classic, the Cardinals lost 3-1 to Georgia Southern University on Mar. 9 then lost 5-0 to Coastal Carolina University Saturday.

Ball State Museum of Art holds new slogan contest

Since Tomohiro Kemmochi began his graduate studies at Ball State University, he has only been to the Museum of Art once. But, his single visit was enough to inspire him to enter the museum's slogan contest, which began last year, and will end March 30. Carl Schafer, associate director of the Museum of Art, said the museum is looking for a slogan that is humorous and clever and "has a resonance with younger people.

The Ball State University women's basketball team will take the next step in its record-setting season with tonight's game in the second round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament. The game against the University of Kentucky is the third time the Cardinals have been to the WNIT.

Even though Ball State University student Alyssa Couch died in November, her life-long best friend still writes messages on her Facebook profile. "I miss making picture frames, scrapbooking and setting the timer on our cameras so EVERYONE can be in the picture," junior Stephanie Marks wrote on Feb.

At halftime of today's matchup between Ball State University and the University of Kentucky, the Cardinals are trailing the Wildcats 45-40 in the second round of the WNIT. Scoring wise, Ball State has been behind the entire game, with a deficit as large as 12 points with 8:05 remaining.

The Ball State University Police Department moved during Spring Break to a location that better fits the needs of students, staff and faculty, university officials said. Most of the UPD personnel moved to the former Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house at 200 N.

FOOTBALL: Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana highlight 2007 season

One season after a 24-23 loss to Indiana University at Scheumann Stadium, the Ball State University football team will get another chance at the Hoosiers in 2007. However, this time it will be in Bloomington on Nov. 3. Indiana is one of five non-conference games for the Cardinals this year.
