Gov. Mitch Daniels announced Thursday that sophomore Kellie Conrad will serve as student representative on the Ball State University Board of Trustees for the next two years. Conrad, a telecommunications major, said she hopes to help Ball State receive more recognition as a top-notch university and to continue to attract quality students.
While police try to determine who left harassing notes in men's basketball coach Ronny Thompson's office, his boss said Thursday that rumors indicating Thompson wants to leave the university are false. "Ronny Thompson is our men's basketball coach," Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins said.

Members of the Department of Anthropology are conducting a systematic survey of East Hamilton County's Stony Creek in order to determine the history of people who have lived in the area. The survey is funded by a $15,446 grant from the U.S. Department of Natural Resources Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology "We're trying to figure out the pre-contact period before the Europeans were there, back when Native Americans lived in the area," Beth McCord, assistant director for research in the Department of Anthropology, said.
Ball State University men's basketball coach Ronny Thompson has not been on campus all day, his secretary said at approximately 2 p.m. Monday. Rumors that Thompson wants to leave the Cardinals' men's basketball head coaching position have spread throughout the Muncie area after racist notes were found in his office June 27.
Effective this week, college freshmen and sophomores can receive more help in paying for school and expenses through federal Stafford loans. Federal legislation passed earlier this year and effective July 1 adds $875 for freshmen and $1,000 to sophomores maximum loan limits.

The Ball State University Marketing and Communications designer was recently recognized nationally for his work on "The President's Report: Education Redefined." NewPage Corporation, an Ohio-based paper company, awarded the designer, Ron McVey, with a certificate of excellence.
Summer seems to be the time for change at Ball State University. Some of the changes, such as the various construction projects aimed at bettering the university, are announced with as much hype and fanfare as possible. Other, less desirable changes can come with little or no publicity and surprise everyone, like the increase in parking meter costs across campus.
The Cornerstone Center for the Arts was granted $100,000 last week from the Ball Brothers Foundation to assist with the purchase of a more sufficient heating, ventilation and cooling system. "The HVAC system we had was really outdated," said Terry Whitt Bailey, president and CEO of Cornerstone Center for the Arts.
