Student's exhibition opens at Blue Bottle

Original drawings, paintings, and etches were hung from the walls of a downtown coffee shop Thursday, showcasing Ball State University senior Geoffrey Smith's work. The art show was hosted by the Blue Bottle Coffee Shop on S. Walnut St. in downtown Muncie.

Friends, family remember Ball State student

When Tyler Rose and Justin Watson met, the two were on opposing teams at the 2003 Indiana High School Bowling Association State Finals. What began as a rivalry blossomed into a friendship for the young bowlers. In 2005, Rose and Watson both came to Ball State University as freshmen, got involved in the bowling team and decided to become roommates.

The only specific reason given for Thompson's departure was concerns about a recent NCAA investigation into violations committed by the men's basketball coaching staff.

BSU sophomore dies in motorcycle crash

Ball State University sophomore Tyler Rose died early Thursday morning in a motorcycle accident on the Southside of Indianapolis, Jim Adams, Rose's stepfather confirmed Thursday night. Adams described Rose, who was a criminal justice and criminology major, as "a great kid that just made a bad mistake.

Officials say price increases to make meters consistent

The recent rise in parking meter fees was not done to increase revenue but to make meter prices consistent throughout campus and in parking garages, Director of Public Safety Gene Burton said Wednesday. "The decision was made with members of the university administration, Public Safety and finance offices," he said.

WOMEN'S GOLF: Five earn award for third consecutive year

With five Ball State University players on 2007 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars Tuesday, the Cardinals tied six schools for the most scholars among NCAA Division I teams. Along with Ball State, Appalachian State University, Indiana State University, Sana Clare University, the University of Southern Alabama and the University of South Carolina had five recipients.

Students looking to make use of the Ball State University Web site Friday night will have to wait. The site will go offline at 5 p.m. Friday, according to a campus-wide e-mail sent by University Web Coordinator Nancy Prater. University Computing Services will conduct scheduled maintenance procedures while the site is down.

SOCCER: Coach names new team captains

Coach Michelle Salmon said her biggest concern selecting the Ball State University soccer team captains wasn't the upcoming season, but preparing her players for when they left the team. After going through a process similar to a job interview, Salmon announced Wednesday seniors Laura Bandy, Sarah Leibel and Lindsay Martin will be the Cardinals' 2007 team captains.

More than seven months after his abrupt firing in December, former Ball State women's volleyball coach Randy Litchfield said he feels his coaching days are over. "When a male who has coached women is fired under mysterious circumstances I can personally confirm the fact that that male's coaching days are over," Litchfield said Wednesday.

Recent regional Emmy nominations will give Ball State University a great deal of visibility, Jacquelyn Buckrop, assistant dean of the College of Communication, Information, and Media, said Wednesday. The Department of Telecommunications has received 11 regional Emmy nominations for their student programs, student production work and documentaries.
