The more questions witnesses answered in the McKinney v. Duplain civil case Friday, the more muddled the trial became. Eye witnesses had different views on how many shots were fired, from where the shots were fired and what Michael McKinney was doing when he was shot by Ball State Police Officer Robert Duplain.

Directly following a 192.975-186.875 loss, Ball State University's gymnastics team and its coaches held a team meeting for an hour and 20 minutes. The Cardinals (0-3, 0-2 Mid-American Conference) lost all four events in the competition to Kent State University Friday with the closest being the uneven parallel bars.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Missed opportunity

Ball State University came out on fire Saturday afternoon at Ohio University. However, the flame burned out in the second half and the Cardinals lost their third Mid-American Conference road game in three tries, a 61-59 decision. The Cardinals' three losses on the road in MAC play have been by a combined eight points.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Late rally seals win

Coach Joel Walton used one word to describe the Ball State University men's volleyball team's performance in game one of Friday's match: expletive. The message was well received by his players, as Ball State overcame a two-game deficit to defeat Lewis University 17-30, 27-30, 30-28, 30-25, 15-13.

MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State gets swept by No. 21 Michigan

Standing in line with their arms folded, the Ball State University men's tennis team was silent as the last point of a 7-0 defeat to the University of Michigan skidded past Joe Vallee's racket. The Vallee loss at No. 4 singles was the team's final chance to land a victory in its Saturday night contest at the YMCA Tennis Center.

Baseball player arrested

A Ball State University baseball player could lose his status as team captain because of a recent arrest. According to Delaware County jail officials, Ball State police arrested senior Wayne Bond on charges of driving while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, Friday morning.

There will be a reception to announce the recruiting class for the Ball State University football team Feb. 6, the university announced Friday. The reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Alumni Center and coach Brady Hoke will announce the signing class at 6 p.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Five-year drought ends with BSU win

Holding a 21-point lead with five minutes remaining in the second half of Saturday's game against Bowling Green State University, Ball State University's band burst into a chant of "We're not gonna take it, anymore." Whether it was planned or not, the timing couldn't have been any better.

After three hours of choreographed dances, poetry readings, vocal performances and impromptu questions, the 2008 Unity Court was announced Saturday. Freshmen Veronica Beamon and David Guiden were crowned Miss Unity Queen and Mr. Unity King at the Black Student Association's Unity Scholarship Pageant.

COMMON SENSE: Cards ignite rivalry with blowout win

After five losses, four blowouts and a season of heartache, Ball State's women's basketball team turned the tables and finally blew past its arch-nemesis with a 21-point victory against Bowling Green State University on Saturday. Judging from the post-game celebration - complete with hugs, chest bumps and Kiley Jarrett heaving the ball to the rafters - the Cardinals' 68-47 win meant a lot more than a typical victory would have.

New committee to address diversity issues at Ball State

A new committee will help the Board of Trustees promote diversity and fix issues at Ball State University. Provost Terry King announced the creation of the diversity committee at the trustees meeting Friday. The university selected about 15 faculty to serve on the committee, which will be headed by Chin-Sook Pak, associate professor of Spanish, King said.

Ball State University's Board of Trustees created a diversity committee at its meeting Friday. Although the committee was only created in response to state legislation and not because of racial and diversity issues Ball State has experienced, we still think it's a good idea.

Having Monday off was terrific. In fact, we should have three-day weekends all the time. Ball State University should just cancel Monday classes for good. By the way, did anybody catch why we had the day off? Wasn't it was because of that Martin Luther guy? Not the Lutheran who posted his 95 Theses on a church door, but the black guy.
