TRACK AND FIELD: Ball State will skip meet

The Ball State University track and field team has opted to withdraw from today's Hoosier Hills meet in Bloomington because of sickness. Assistant coach Steve Rajewsky said the illness and injuries that hindered the team in last week's Meyo Invitational have persisted.

Hoke signs enhanced contract

Football coach Brady Hoke agreed to an enhanced contract with Ball State University Wednesday. The enhanced contract increases Hoke's salary to $240,000 per year, according to a press release. It also includes additional and enhanced incentives, according to the press release.

SOCCER: Cardinals add four recruits

Of the seven women who originally said they would play soccer for Ball State University next season, four of them signed national letters of intent. Interim head coach Abby Richter announced Tuesday the Cardinals had signed Jackie Arroyo, Abby Milillo, Sarah Orisich and Alison Ramsey for the 2008 season.

Weaver to step down as dean

After 14 years leading Ball State University's Teachers College, Dean Roy Weaver is stepping down to focus on returning to the classroom. "I've been in the Dean's office for nearly 25 years," Weaver said, referring to his ten years as associate dean beginning in 1982, followed by his promotion to the position of dean in 1993.

Ball State University's "master plan" for expansion has left some Muncie landlords angry about its effect on property taxes, which is forcing them to raise rental rates for students. Ball State has bought property in neighboring areas for the past few decades, said Tom Morrison, associate vice president for human resources and state relations.

Toy gun play puts students in jail

Two theatre students' rehearsal of a play took a dramatic turn when it was interrupted by Ball State University police. Gene Burton, director of public safety, said police arrested sophomore Keith Deibel and freshman Alex Dunning on preliminary charges of disorderly conduct after the students were found with a toy gun at Bracken Library on Sunday.

Teachers College dean to step down

Roy Weaver, dean of Teachers College, said he will step down from his position. According to a press release, Weaver has been the dean of Teachers College for 14 years, and he will remain in his position until Ball State University finds a replacement. Weaver will devote his time to teaching and conducting research, according to a press release.
