Spammers infiltrate BSU e-mail

Student e-mails are still under fire from spammers, causing e-mail accounts to become disabled and putting student messages at risk of being considered spam itself. Loren Malm, assistant director of security, policy, systems and assessment, said spammers infiltrated about 12 student e-mail accounts and Ball State University e-mail accounts had been disabled three times this semester.

Trials set in battery case

Three Ball State University-affiliated women arrested in connection with an assault at a party will return to court to face battery charges this summer, the Delaware County Clerk's Office said Tuesday. A fourth woman who was arrested in connection with the same incident will have her initial hearing on Thursday, according to the Clerk's Office.

Spam forces UCS to disable e-mail

For the second time in a week, an e-mail scam has caused Ball State University Computing Services to disable e-mail services for university accounts for several hours Tuesday night. Loren Malm, interim assistant vice president of information technology, said two students gave out their accounts' usernames and passwords, which opened the gates for massive amounts of spam.

Hiatt Printing adjusts to new operation hours

Hiatt Printing's campus location has had no complaints this month after closing on a business day for the first time since its opening in 1986. "We're still doing some transitioning," owner Chris Hiatt said. "We're working out the kinks." He said he planned and weighed his options for several weeks before making a tough decision to decrease business hours to 7 a.

SOFTBALL: BSU comes out flat

With two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two against Butler University on Tuesday, the Ball State University softball team tied the score at 3-3. However, the Cardinals (18-14) could not push across the winning run as Allie Pennock was thrown out at home for the final out of the inning, ending the Ball State rally.

Hillary Clinton to visit Muncie on Friday

Three days after her daughter's visit to Ball State University, Hillary Rodham Clinton will visit Muncie. Clinton's campaign announced Wednesday evening Clinton will attend a "Solutions for the American Economy" rally from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Muncie Central High School.

Bookmark Café is busy for celebration

Bracken Library's Bookmark Café celebrated its anniversary Wednesday afternoon. The Bookmark Café supplied participants with complimentary samples of Seattle's Best Coffee and cappuccino muffin shots. Visitors were also able to participate in a raffle for bookmarks and coupons for free coffee, which were drawn every hour.

Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign announced Wednesday she will make a stop in Muncie three days after her daughter spoke at Ball State University on her behalf. Clinton will attend a "Solutions for the American Economy" rally Friday at Muncie Central High School, according to a press release from Clinton's Indiana press office.

MEN'S GOLF: From student to coach

After averaging 27.1 points and 6.0 assists per game as a senior basketball player at Blue River Valley High School in Springport, graduate student Kyle Cox received a basketball scholarship from Ball State University in 2002. In the spring of 2004, however, after two years with the basketball team, Cox decided to dedicate his time with the men's golf team and head coach Mike Fleck.

At the start of the spring season, coach Bill Richards sat down with his team and ironed out a definite goal for the upcoming schedule: win the Mid-American Conference tournament. The first step to accomplishing that goal comes when the Ball State University men's tennis team plays at Chicago State University Thursday in its first conference match of the season.

WOMEN'S GOLF: Cards defend invitational championship

A year after winning the Butler Spring Invitational, the Ball State University women's golf team defended its title with a first-place finish Tuesday. The Cardinals finished with a 639, 14 shots better than the second-place team, University of Evansville, at the two-day, 36-hole event.

SOFTBALL: Ball State, Valparaiso split pair of extra-inning games

After four consecutive cancellations, the Ball State University softball team began to make up for the lost time by playing two extra-inning games at Valparaiso University Monday. The Cardinals (17-13) and Crusaders (13-7) split the doubleheader, with Valparaiso winning the first game 1-0 in eight innings and Ball State winning game two 4-3 in nine.

Village to get office for Obama

Sen. Barack Obama will open a regional office in Muncie, which could lead to the candidate visiting the city in the near future, according to Obama campaign workers. The Obama campaign announced Monday that Muncie will be one of 10 cities in Indiana in which a regional campaign office will open.

BASEBALL: Weather will not slow down Cards

In its latest attempt to play baseball, Ball State University will travel to the University of Notre Dame today. The Cardinals haven't played in nine days because of snow and rain canceling their last five games. Ball State beat Presbyterian College in its last game to bring its season record to 8-8.

Recreation center construction to begin in a few weeks

Students who work out in Irving Gym late at night have nothing to worry about while construction begins in the parking lot outside the building. Thomas Morrison, associate vice president for Business Affairs, said the Student Recreation and Wellness Center's construction would begin in the upcoming weeks.

March is Women's History Month, a time devoted to the study of women who made a difference in the world and who didn't have it easy. At Ball State University, students are used to seeing a balanced amount of women and men in the classroom. Last school year the student population was about 53 percent women and 47 percent men, according to the university's Student Enrollment Fact Book.
