Ball State princesses inform kids

More than a dozen children who are clients at Ball State University's Speech and Audiology Clinic now know more about the Indianapolis 500 Race thanks to Indy 500 Festival Princesses Jeannette Young and Jennifer Eakins. The princesses, who are required to lead two outreach programs, hosted one Tuesday in the Arts and Communications Building, where they read a book, showed a film and played a game with the children in attendance.

SOFTBALL: Pair of homers not enough in Cardinals' loss

Prior to April, one Ball State University softball player had hit a home run. Since April 10, that number has grown to five. Before Spring Break, Jen Reifschneider was the only Cardinal to hit a home run, but Kamilah Holle, Amanda Montalto, Jen Moore and Kate Wilczynski have since added their names to the list.

Taco Bell, Starbucks come to student center

A renovated Talley Food Court in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center will open Aug. 24, adding a few national chains. According to a press release, the food court will have a Taco Bell and a Starbucks. A salad bar, grill, soups, comfort foods and grab-n-go items such as premade sandwiches, wraps and fruit cups also will be available.

SOFTBALL: Designated hitter wins weekly award

For the first time in her career, Ball State University designated player Amanda Montalto was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week today. Montalto had a .700 batting average and 1.400 slugging percentage this past weekend as she went 7-for-10 in four games.

FOOTBALL: Videographer up for national award

The video and technology coordinator for the Ball State University football team was named the Mid-American Conference Video Coordinator of the Year today by the Collegiate Sports Video Association. D.J. Welte, the Cardinals' video and technology coordinator, is now a candidate for the Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year.

Debate team wins national competition

Samantha Sallee and Ben Davis may have started their Ball State University Debate careers for different reasons but they both ended them as national champions. The seniors were part of a team of about 20 debaters crowned the nation's best April 18 in Washington, D.

BASEBALL: Coach doesn't care about OSU's ranking

Traveling to Columbus, Ohio, to play a ranked team for the first time this season doesn't bother the Ball State University baseball team. The Cardinals (16-17) were scheduled to play three teams ranked in preseason polls, but all had dropped out of the rankings by the time they faced Ball State.

FOOTBALL: Hill hopes to climb way into draft

The 2009 NFL Draft is this weekend and cornerback B.J. Hill is hoping to be among a group of Ball State University players selected. NFL teams are looking at Hill as a possible return specialist in addition to cornerback. But with less than a week before the draft Hill is playing the waiting game.

Attendance cuts BSU club event to 1 day

Ball State University faculty and staff plan to make a lot of noise as they gather to celebrate Earth Day. The Natural Resources Club will have its annual celebration of the Earth and environment Wednesday with Earth Day 2009: Making Noise. Stephanie Weyer, president of the Natural Resources Club, said in past years, Ball State had a week-long Earth Day celebration, but low attendance and a cut in funds has forced the celebration to be done in one day.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Outside attacker to coach in home state

For a player who never liked leaving the court throughout his career, outside attacker Todd Chamberlain could not be more excited to sit on the sidelines next season. Having the desire to become a coach since the senior joined the Ball State University men's volleyball team, Chamberlain will now get that opportunity in his home state.

Construction doesn't hurt Late Nite

Even though the program had to change venues, Late Nite hasn't been significantly affected by construction on the L.A. Pittenger Student Center this year. Assistant Director for Programs Hannah Harrison said Late Nite had to move to Irving Gymnasium at the beginning of the year.

The Full Package

Six students will bear it all Thursday night at University Theater and give the audience the "Full Monty." The musical, based on the 1997 British comedy movie of the same name, is the last production this year from the Department of Theatre and Dance's Mainstage series.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards win Game Changing Performance

The Ball State University women's basketball team continued to gain national attention Monday from its 71-55 upset victory against the University of Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Ball State won the "Pontiac Game Changing Performance" of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament for its first round victory on March 22.
