SOCCER: Ball State's 2 late goals secures win vs. Xavier in exhibition match

The Ball State University soccer team started its 2009 season with a 2-1 victory in an exhibition match against Xavier University on Monday. Two early second-half goals for the Cardinals helped the team take control of the match. The two teams used the first half to break themselves into the first game of the season.

Ball State begins to implement new Core Curriculum

Ball State University will issue a new mandatory University Core Curriculum in Fall 2010, but students may opt into the new system this year. During five years as president of Ball State University, Jo Ann Gora has built a reputation of getting out to sell the university. When Gora came to Ball State five years ago, she told the Daily News that she wanted to make the university more distinctive. "Some of it, frankly, is sheer marketing," Gora said then. MEN'S BASKETBALL: Keeping the family tradition

Twelve years ago, 6-year-old Jauwan Scaife would watch his older cousin and then Ball State University men's basketball player, Bonzi Wells, who was picked 11th overall in the 1998 NBA Draft play at Worthen Arena. Now 18-years-old, Scaife trains and works out with Wells everyday at the downtown Muncie YMCA to prepare for his freshman season with the Cardinals, just like his older cousin.

His ability to problem solve is what led to constructing his ring flash that helped get about 10 portraits in his exhibit at Cornerstone Center for the Arts.

Art glass studio coming to Ball State

Construction will begin in September on the new Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass, a facility that Ball State University officials say will make the school a center for the study of glass and art. "Its intentions are to bring [in] more students interested in that field," Greg Graham interim director of Facilities Planning said.

RibFest to bring hungry crowd to downtown Muncie

This weekend's Muncie RibFest will bring thousands of rib fans to downtown Muncie, including chefs determined to show off their best - and often secret - recipes, one organizer said. Between 4,000 and 5,000 people are expected on Walnut Street, which will be blocked off from Jackson Street to the roundabout for the event Saturday and Sunday, Cheryl Crowder, the event's director, said.

Director makes new film 'bloody good'

Ball State University senior Dan Finnen has been more than willing to sacrifice his mental health for his love of filmmaking. "[As] a director you sacrifice your sanity," Finnen said with a laugh. The telecommunications major has made more than 50 short films and two feature length films.
