Students contemplate voting in upcoming elections

As state elections approach, some students are debating whether or not to vote on Nov. 4 despite the impact resulting policies could have on them.Out of 15 Ball State students asked, only five said they were planning to vote this year. Indiana had the second-lowest voter turn out in 2010 for the 18-29 age group in the country, according to civicyouth.org.

Climate rally raises questions about activism

Ball State students and Muncie residents joined about 2,700 communities around the world in satellite rallies showing support for a climate march in New York City on Sept. 21.

Living Lightly Fair speaker discusses youth sustainability

A past comedian brought his talents to Muncie Sept. 20 to speak about a serious issue: sustainability.More than 100 people from Muncie and Ball State listened to Jim Poyser, the keynote speaker for the Living Lightly Fair. Poyser discussed the obstacles to awareness and education about sustainability. “That’s the hardest thing: how do you communicate the predicament, because then it becomes, ‘What do we do about India?’” he said.

Purdue shooter, Cody Cousins, sentenced to 65 years

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) ? An Indiana man who admitted fatally stabbing and shooting a fellow Purdue University student inside a crowded classroom has been sentenced to 65 years in prison after telling a judge he lied about being mentally ill. Tippecanoe Superior Court Judge Thomas Busch imposed the maximum sentence Friday on Cody Cousins for the Jan.

Goodell, NFL to implement personal conduct policies

NEW YORK (AP) ? Commissioner Roger Goodell says the NFL wants to implement new personal conduct policies by the Super Bowl.At a news conference Friday, Goodell made his first public statements in more than a week about the rash of NFL players involved in domestic violence.
