Ball State Football’s 2019 in review

The college football season is over for fans of the cardinal and white, but they shouldn’t be hanging their heads. Ball State finished the 2019 season at 5-7 — the best record it has finished with in the Mike Neu era. To go along with wrapping up the season, here are some of the Cardinals’ top aspects of the year.

4 takeaways from Ball State’s road loss to Kent State

In the loss that made it officially ineligible for the postseason, Ball State struggled the entire game on defense, but particularly in the second half in the loss to Kent State. The Cardinals had several opportunities to capitalize on offense but were unable to when it mattered most. Here are four takeaways from the Cardinals’ 41-38 loss to the Golden Flashes.

Ball State Football ready for 3-game stretch, bowl game

With Ball State just two wins away from bowl eligibility and temperatures in Muncie nearing single digits this week at practice, redshirt junior quarterback Drew Plitt has the Bahamas on his mind. As good as it feels to have the team’s first bowl birth since 2013 in sight, Plitt said, players’ eyes can’t get too wide.

Phillips, Uzodinma expose friendly competition in interception battle

In Ball State’s season opener against Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium, sophomore A.J. Uzodinma and junior Antonio Phillips came away with the team’s first two interceptions of the year. Eight weeks later, the Cardinals’ starting cornerbacks are in a battle for the top spot on the Mid-American Conference’s interception list.
