Although the seats in Worthen Arena have been a little emptier than usual this season, cheers reverberated throughout the building Tuesday night with a little more than four minutes to go in Ball State's final home game of 2020-21.
After commencement ceremonies were canceled for spring, summer and fall 2020 graduates, Ball State President Geoffrey Mearns announced in a campus-wide email Wednesday morning that in-person ceremonies will return for May 2021.
In Ball State Men’s Basketball’s 100-65 win over Eastern Michigan, redshirt fifth-year guard K.J. Walton scored a career-best 32 points, and redshirt junior forward Miryne Thomas scored tied a career-high 20 points on a perfect 5-for-5 from the field.
After three weeks of campaigning as the only slate to run, Strive won the 2021 election. The slate secured 71 percent of the vote, with the no confidence vote receiving 29 percent.

Three weeks removed from the conclusion of Ball State’s Unity Week, the Black Student Association’s (BSA) 53rd annual Unity Pageant kicked off in person on Sunday evening at Pruis Hall, as well as on Zoom.

Ball State Softball competed in the Southern Illinois Tournament to open its 2021 season. The games marked the start of the new season and the debut of head coach Lacy Wood. Entering the weekend, Wood felt excited and eager to be around the team in a competitive setting for the first time.
Coming off of its season-opening series against the nationally ranked Arizona Wildcats, Ball State (4-3, 0-0 MAC) returned to the Midwest this weekend — but found its opponent in fewer than 48 hours.
At the end of the night, it was the Buckeyes (5-6, 4-3 MIVA) standing tall with the 3-2 victory and the upset win over the Cardinals (7-2, 4-1 MIVA).
That energy is something those two believe help the team win games, especially in Ball State Men’s Basketball’s 97-91 win against the Chippewas.
Ball State defeated Toledo 88-77. The story of the game took place on the offensive end of the court, where the Cardinals shot 12-of-24 from the 3-point line.
The logic that one can only have an eating disorder if they look a certain way, are a certain gender or weigh a certain number is stereotypical and discourages those who do not fit the societal criteria from seeking help for serious disordered eating.
In his seventh season as head coach of Lawrence Central High School boys’ basketball, Al Gooden made history. He became the first African American high school boys’ basketball coach in Indiana to reach 500 wins when the Bears defeated Decatur Central 58-38 in the Marion County Tournament Jan. 12.
When Kent Millard attended civil rights marches in the 1960s, he was taught to link arms with fellow protesters so no one would be separated from the group. Millard knew attending marches and protests could be dangerous even though participants were nonviolent. Trainers told him what to do in the face of violent retaliation.
Freeman is most remembered for her involvement in the turnaround of Central Noble High School Girls’ Basketball. The Cougars had not won more than five games since the 2009-10 season, but Freeman took the team from one of the worst in the state to one of the most dominant teams, beginning with her arrival in 2015. The Cougars finished 18-7 her freshman season before going 23-5 her junior season and 27-1 her senior season.
In January 2020, Jordyn Blythe, junior communications studies and political science major, attended Beverly Tatum’s speech at Ball State University on why schools are responsible for fostering conversations about the importance of diversity and inclusivity.
The story of Black students at Ball State is one of perseverance — it is a story of the Black students’ tenacity and faith in themselves, each other and the university.
