WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards get revenge with 27-point win

Attempting to leave its struggles in the Mid-American Conference East Division in the past, Ball State University's women's basketball team was looking for any kind of win Tuesday night. The fact that the victory ended up being a 76-49 dumping on the University of Toledo, the Cardinals' largest margin of victory this year against the one divisional opponent they hadn't beaten, made it that much sweeter.

Senior Telecommunications major Andrew Hosey was working on an intermediate video class project last year when he ran into a problem. Every time Hosey tried to view the changes made to his video, he said, the Final Cut Pro program would have to process the changes before he could see it.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State beats No. 11 Loyola

The Ball State University men's volleyball team defeated No. 11 Loyola-Chicago University 31-33, 30-27, 30-19, 34-32. This win marked the Cardinals third consecutive win against a nationally ranked team. Also it is the first time since 2006 Ball State has beaten Loyola.

More than seven months before the events they plan, the Homecoming Steering Committee was appointed. Michele Johnson, director of alumni special events, said after an application and interview process she and other committee advisers chose the 16 members of the 2008 committee.

Donations to increase from 06-07

The Ball State University Foundation has raised more than $11.5 million in the first half of the year, almost 70 percent of the amount raised all of last year, according to its mid-year report. "We're excited about the future and greater support," Ben Hancock, vice president for university advancement, said.

Even though the weather was warm and sunny, the Ball State University men's golf team finished 13th out of 14 teams in its trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Playing internationally for the first time in collegiate competition, the Cardinals competed at the Flamingos Golf Club.

When students launch shots of hard liquor into caffeinated energy drinks, they are in for more than just a buzz, according to David Pearson, director of the strength and research laboratory. Mixing stimulants with alcohol is a more dangerous practice than alcohol consumption alone, he said.

"The biggest thing was we were very inconsistent from one game to the next and even one inning to the next," Nicholson said.

Sophomore Ryan Harkleroad was watching his opponent shoot his ping-pong ball and put it into Harkleroad's final cup. According to the New York Post, the season ending show of "Zoey 101" averaged 7.3 million viewers, which was more than double Nickelodeon's season average. Presumably, the increase was due to the bombshell news of 16 year-old star Jamie Lynn Spears' untimely pregnancy.
