Downtown businesses will relocate to make room for Ivy Tech expansion

After four years of selling records in the same location, Dan Walter, owner of Dan's Downtown Records, will be moving to make room for Ivy Tech Community College's expansion in downtown Muncie. "I've managed to pack a lot of stuff down here in four years; it's going to be a real challenge to move," said Walter, a 56 year old Muncie native and 1971 graduate of Muncie Central High School.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Taylor announces changes to coaching staff

Mitch Gilfillan, a former player of Ball State University men's basketball coach Billy Taylor joined the program as director of basketball operations. The announcement was made on Tuesday along with the promotion of Bob Simmons to associate head coach. The Director of Basketball Operations position was opened last week when Matt Laur left to become assistant coach at SIU-Edwardsville.

Student loan applications increase by 50 percent, cause delays

The Scholarship and Financial Aid office claims it was keeping up with processing applications for financial aid fairly well until August. However, some students say they have been waiting all summer for their loans to go through. Denise Spudic, a graduate assistant for communication studies, said she filled out her student loan forms in mid-July, requesting the maximum amount of subsidized loans.

UPDATE: Ball State knew about positive tests weeks ago

The swine flu virus has found its way to Ball State University, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Kay Bales said. The university has two confirmed cases of swine flu, she said. Bales did not have exact information about when the students contracted the virus, but said both students have since recovered.

FOOTBALL: Lewis, Grant petition NCAA for an extra year of eligibility

The farewell tour for Ball State University running back MiQuale Lewis may be getting an encore. Coach Stan Parrish announced Monday that paperwork has been filed requesting a medical redshirt for the senior, meaning he would be eligible to play for the Cardinals again next season.

CROSS COUNTRY: Ball State drops out of weekend meet

The Ball State cross country team has dropped out of their meet this Saturday in Bloomington to focus on the upcoming Indiana Intercollegiates, Associate Director of Media Relations Brad Caudill said Tuesday. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, September 18 in Terre Haute.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards fall to Lousville in Active Ankle championship

The championship match of the Active Ankle Challenge pitted the Cardinals against each other. On one side was Big East power Louisville (4-2) and the other, the Ball State University women's volleyball squad (2-4). Louisville took the Active Ankle Challenge championship in four sets 25-16, 25-13, 23-25, 25-16.

Ball State Bold raises 88 percent of $200 million campaign goal

One year after Ball State University launched its "Ball State Bold: Investing in the Future" campaign to raise $200 million by 2011, the university announced Friday it obtained 88 percent of its goal. Ball State Bold is a fundraising campaign the university started to subsidize campus improvements, such as renovations to the Ball State Museum of Art, building the Glick Center for Glass and the creation of new immersive-learning opportunities and scholarships, according to its Web site.
