WOMEN'S GOLF: Cards begin to slip in desert after second round

After opening the Golfweek's Conference Challenge in eighth place, the women's golf team has slipped to 14th after the second day of competition. "We played exceptionally well during the first day, and we found ourselves in a pretty good position, although today we could have played better," coach Katherine Mowat said about the team's recent standings in the tournament.

Committee to discuss Sunday alcohol sales ban

Indiana legislators are taking another look at sales of alcohol on Sunday. The Interim Study Committee on Alcoholic Beverages Issues is taking public testimony today on allowing alcohol sales on Sundays and Election Day. Grocery and convenience stores are pushing for the change, while most package liquor stores are against it.

FOOTBALL: Game time announced for Auburn game

The game time for Ball State University's football game at Auburn University on Sept. 26 has been set for 6 p.m. central time. The game will be televised on Fox Sports South, Fox Sports Southwest and Sun Sports. Joe Hernandez, Assistant Athletic Director for Media and Alumni relations, said he did not know if Fox Sports Indiana would pick the game up as well.

When thinking of this year's football team, there's one thing we are all thinking: How much worse can it get? A $13.7 million renovation of Scheumann Stadium, a 19-8 record the last two seasons, two consecutive bowl appearances and being nationally ranked last season were supposed to bring a new era to Ball State football, one that included not losing to FCS teams.

As Colts and Jaguars players ran back to the locker rooms at the end of the first half of the Colts' home opener at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, members of Ball State University's Pride of Mid-America band marched to take the field amid cheering football fans, most clad in blue and white.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards sweep field at ISU Classic

Taking care of business isn't always as easy as it may seem; going on the road, playing on a foreign court without the benefit of sleeping in your own bed and having to play three times within 24 hours all present a unique challenge. Despite this challenge, the Ball State University women's volleyball team did take care of business over the weekend, sweeping three opponents in three sets each to win the Best Western Indiana State University Classic.

SOCCER: Ball State gets first win of season in home opener

After a five-game road trip to open the season, the Ball State University soccer team greatly welcomed a home match Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals got their first win of the season, beating SIU-Edwardsville 3-2. "We won. The monkey is finally off our back," coach Michael Lovett said.

FIELD HOCKEY: Cardinals blanked by Wolverines

The offense was not there Sunday for the Ball State University field hockey team as they dropped their third straight match to the University of Michigan by a score of 4-0. This makes for the second straight year that Michigan has defeated Ball State. The Cardinals are ranked first in the MAC for shots per game at 19.

MEN'S GOLF: BSU stars season with 15th place finish

There is a reason why Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville is ranked the 20th best course in the country in Golfweek's "America's 100 Best Modern Courses": it's an extremely difficult course. In its opening event of the fall season, the Ball State University men's golf team finished 13th out of 17 teams at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate.

Ball State program helps to acclimate international students

Last year, Ball State University increased it's number of international students by more than 100. This recruitment initiative brought more students to the Intensive English Institute, a program on campus that helps international students learn English in a short period of time.

Volunteers clean up 15 miles of the White River

Every weekend, Bob Snavely and his dog Buster can be found walking and fishing on the banks of the White River. "It's a part of our week," Snavely said as he handed Buster a beef jerky treat. "If [friends and family] want to see me on Saturday or Sunday, they gotta come to the river.

Even with a college education, many graduates still have trouble finding a job in their desired career. In response to that notion, Ball State University's Career Center has created a lecture series to give students the skills and knowledge they need to get a job.

FOOTBALL: Parrish says backup Justice will likely play Saturday against Army

Coach Stan Parrish said Ball State University backup quarterback Tanner Justice is likely to play Saturday at Army. Speaking at his weekly press conference, Parrish said Justice should have come in during Ball State's 23-16 loss to the University of New Hampshire to give freshman Kelly Page a break.

Swine flu vaccines to be available in October

In addition to offering seasonal flu vaccines, the Amelia T. Wood Health Center will also be distributing the swine flu vaccine to students this flu season. The H1N1 vaccine for swine flu will be available sometime between the middle and end of October at Ball State University and will be free for students.
