Restaurant finds niche in Muncie

A recommendation at the Heorot was what inspired Joel Savage, owner of Savage's Ale House, to enter into the hand-crafted beer world. Savage's Ale House opened Sept. 1, offering a wide selection of beer and something different from the rest of the downtown Muncie restaurants, Savage said.

In the past two years, Ball State University has struggled against Big Ten opponents. Ball State looked much better against No. 17 Indiana University on Saturday, but the result was the same. The Cardinals fell 2-1 Saturday against the Hoosiers, marking their fifth-straight loss.

FOOTBALL: Ball State keeps Army's ground game in check

WEST POINT, N.Y. - It seemed like Ball State University couldn't stop the option. The first time they touched the ball, Army cut Ball State's defense to pieces with a 13-play, 80-yard drive that resulted in a one-yard touchdown run for Jameson Carter. There was no need for quarterback Trent Steelman to put the ball in the air, except for a few option pitches.

President Barack Obama's recent media blitz will continue on the "Late Show with David Letterman." David Letterman, a Ball State alumnus and host of the CBS late-night talk show, will interview Obama on a new episode airing at 11:35 p.m. Monday.

University Police has first Citizen's Academy class

The University Police Department hope to give the Ball State University community more insight into what they face daily at their jobs. Ball State's first Citizen's Police Academy began Sunday in the basement training room of UPD headquarters. The program's participants will spend their next nine Sunday evenings learning about UPD and police work.

Cherokee folk singer to perform

A 2007 nominee for Best Male Performer and Best Pop Recording for the Native American Music Awards, Cherokee folk singer Michael Jacobs will perform a blend of upbeat anthems, folk ballads and flute music at 8 p.m. in Pruis Hall. The concert will be free of admission and open to the general public.

WOMEN'S GOLF: Cards finish second in home tournament

After leading in the Cardinal Classic Tournament on Saturday, the women's golf team finished the tournament in second place. Eastern Michigan University overcame a five-stroke deficit to win the 16-team tournament Sunday. Sophomore Kristtini Cain tied for ninth with a 149, leading fellow teammates: Brittany Kelly, Kirsty O'Connor and Katie Windlan who each tied for 14th with a 151.

Retro crowd attends UPB, Revolution event for intense contest

Music blared from the steps of the Bracken Library as people dressed in '80s attire danced and played four square to the sounds of local bands at a four square tournament sponsored by The Revolution church and University Program Board on Saturday. Dressed in a dark green track suit and retro headband, Revolution staff member Carl Frost greeted people as they came in and served as the host of the evening.

Less than 24 hours after playing two hard-fought matches and coming up on short, the Ball State University women's volleyball team fared better in its match Saturday. Looking to avoid a sweep of the entire weekend, Ball State took it to the host of the Towson Invitation, Towson University early and often Saturday.

With three freshmen and three sophomores on its roster, Ball State University women's tennis coach Kathy Bull has said she has things to be excited for in the future. Lauren Pickrel showed her coach that she had something to be excited for right now. Pickrel won two titles Saturday at Ball State Invitational, as she captured the singles title with a comeback win against Beth Ganser of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

WASHINGTON (AP) - A straw poll at a summit on Saturday showed that Rep. Mike Pence is a candidate some Republican voters are considering for their 2012 presidential nominee. Pence, whose Indiana district includes Ball State University, finished in a four-way tie for second in a poll conducted at the Values Voter Summit.
