Concert to highlight King's life

Ball State University and the Muncie community will be able to hear first hand accounts of the civil rights movement from Muncie natives along with musical performances in remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr. at 8 p.m. in Sursa Performance Hall.The Office of Institutional Diversity and the School of Music are sponsoring the Martin Luther King Memorial Concert to honor the many achievements made throughout his life.

Hypnotist Frederick Winters will be performing tonight at Ball State University.Winters was named Entertainer of the Year by Campus Activities Magazine in 2006, the same year he last visited Ball State.

Guest speaker refines speech about famous paintings

An Indiana University Bloomington professor will give this year's speech at the Edmund F. Petty Memorial Lecture today in the Museum of Art.This year's lecture, "Sunshine and Shadow: Winslow Homer's Nervous Nostalgia in the 1870s," will be given by Sarah Burns, a professor of fine arts in the Department of History of Art at IU.

Edward James Olmos talks to students about being open to diversity

Edward James Olmos wishes he would never have to give another seminar like he did Wednesday night in Pruis Hall."The things that I'm talking about are already so understood," Olmos said. "It's really nothing that you haven't heard before."Olmos, a long-time actor and social activist, spoke about the definition of race, conflicting religion, personal identity and how none of those issues should divide us in front of a crowd of more than 600. He said that peace comes from loving all parts of oneself, no matter where those parts originate.

Quick-stepping Irish dancers will take over John R. Emens Auditorium as they transport the audience to a mythical time in Ireland filled with Celtic music and dance. A touring production of "Lord of the Dance" will return to the Emens stage at 7:30 p.m. for the first time since 2002.

University Program Board is showing a double feature of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" tonight, and the later showing is expected to sell out.UPB president Dillon Kimmel said they would be showing "Harry Potter" at 6 p.m. at the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Ballroom and at 9:30 p.m. in Pruis Hall.
