MUNCIE, Ind. — The sports administration program at Ball State University is taking a new approach to final projects for its classes. Such is the case for the Sports Administration 619 class.

This class promotes experiential learning through hands-on experiences for sports administration students. In this instance, students were tasked to create an event with sponsors and partners, and they did just that.

The 2025 Birdie Bash took place on April 11 at Delaware Country Club. At the event, patrons would pay $100 to enter an 18-hole team scramble. This event included challenges such as the longest drive, longest putt made, and closest to the pin, all of which would secure a prize for the winner.

After a semester of planning, senior Nicole Donnelly could not have been happier with the turnout at the event.

“Yeah we're super super stoked that everyone is out here and it seems like everyone is having a good time so far so just excited about it." said Donnelly.

On top of the great turnout, assistant professor Zachary Evans was glad to see how his students worked together to bring the event from the classroom, to the golf course he said,

“Some people like to sell sponsorships, some people like to plan the awards, so getting people an opportunity to shine through in an area that they really want to gain that extra experience.”

After the event was in full swing, students were relieved to see that it had gone just as they had planned.

“Seeing everyone pull up and get excited and register… Just meeting everyone and getting excited about everyone here has been a great part.” Donnelly said.
