JERUSALEM — Israel’s defense minister Wednesday vowed that “all hell will break loose” if Hamas fails to free hostages this weekend.
The dispute was provoked when Hamas accused Israel of failing to meet commitments under the truce– including the delivery of tents and other aid. The next hostage release was then delayed to Saturday.
Israel says it is fulfilling its obligations under the deal, which went into effect on Jan. 19. From that day, the 16-month war in Gaza was paused– giving respite to hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.
