MUNCIE, Ind. — After a four-year hiatus, the Residence Hall Association (RHA) returned to one of their beloved events on Jan. 29 in Park Hall.
In 2021, RHA celebrated its “Cake Wars” event for the last time. The event made its return with six teams of varying sizes.
“The Cake Wars are hosted by RHA, our events are planned by our Activities Director,” said RHA President, Andrew Hopkins. “I specifically asked her to host this one because it was one from my freshman year that I thought was really fun, and I wanted to see it make a return.”
The six teams were Neeto Skeetos, Park Sharks, I.N.A.T.D.I.A.I.A.U, Schmilly Schweets, PHC and the Butchers. All teams represented their own groups or organizations. The theme was then announced to be Candy Land, a popular board game. The teams then had an hour and a half to complete their designs.
Once the teams added their finishing touches, the judges emerged. Judging the competition was Ball State University’s First Lady, Jennifer Mearns, and Associate Director for Residential Learning, Matt Kocach.
After an initial four-way tie, the winner was announced to be team Neeto Skeetos, representing members from the Theta Chi Fraternity.
“It was really fun just hanging out with the brothers, we definitely made some memories there,” Theta Chi representative, Christian Roche said. “I didn’t expect to win, but it was really cool. We really just had fun with it and tried to be as creative as possible and not worry too much about winning.”
RHA strives to bring creativity and participation through students on campus. Other events RHA holds can be found across several different dorms such as serving mocktails at holding holiday celebrations.
“RHA plans events usually once a month,” Hopkins said. “If you are on hall council, or if you are an RA or an APM, you can come to us and ask for money or equipment to help run your event.”
The icing on the cake was the laughter and community that poured out of the common room that night.
