MUNCIE Ind. – This past Thursday, Muncie Central traveled to Marion to face the Giants in a big conference matchup.
The Muncie Central Bearcats were 6-12, fifth in the conference going into Thursday’s game while the Giants were 7-8. The Giants sat in third place in the conference.
The Bearcats started the game with a strong first half scoring 17 in the first and 12 in the second, but after halftime, Marion stole the show scoring 23 points in the third quarter and ending the game with 22 points in the fourth. Marion would go on to win the game 76-55.
“I think defense you know like you said we played in spurts offensively when we turn them over we are good in the open court that leads to high percentage buckets and that’s what we’re good at,” Head coach James Blackmon stated after being asked how big defense was in their gameplan.
Tim Jones and Amar Rogers led the Giants to victory with Jones’ 29 points and five steals, while Rogers put up 16 points along with four rebounds himself.
The Bearcat's top performers were Junior Shemar Taylor who had 16 points, Senior leader Lj Strange scored 10 on the night and Freshman Carlos Echols had a team-high of seven assists in the game.
Looking ahead, Muncie Central will travel to Anderson to take on the Indians on Feb. 15 and the Marion Giants host the Warsaw Tigers on Feb. 11.
