More winter weather is on its way to East Central Indiana, as a low pressure system will bring snow to region tomorrow into Saturday morning. As the storm system develops over the south central United States, it will begin to move northeastward across the Central Gulf Coast, surging moisture northward and bringing snow to our region Friday afternoon and into the overnight hours. The heaviest snow will likely fall Friday evening, affecting the evening commute and continuing overnight into Saturday morning before tapering off. As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Delaware, Henry, Madison, Randolph, and Wayne counties.
Most areas here in East Central Indiana will look to see 2-4” of snow from this system, with amounts decreasing as you head further north and west. This snow will be in addition to the 3-5” of snow already on the ground, and with overnight low temperatures in the teens through the weekend, refreezing of roads, bridges, and overpasses is possible and isolated slick conditions will likely persist for several days. Unlike our last system, this will be all snow, with no ice threat this time around.
The brutally cold conditions and snow chances remain with us well into next week, so remain cautious on roads and stay warm out there as we remain in the icebox for the foreseeable future. Continue to keep pets and animals warm, and make sure to have a winter kit filled with essentials in your vehicle in case of an accident.
