MUNCIE, Ind. — The Black Student Association's 56th Unity Pageant, held at Pruis Hall on Sunday, displayed fashion, talent, and community service to celebrate Ball State's black community.
Talents ranged from speed painting to acting to dancing, accompanied by dazzling dresses. The 2025 Ms. Unity crown went to junior biochemistry and pre-medicine student Jasiah Scaife. She explained that it does not take much to reach your dreams.
"Just knowing that you have a good heart and that you actually want to believe and do it and achieve what you want to do, that is the most you ever need, and you can do anything you set your mind to because the sky is the limit," Scaife said.
The pageant winner also said her connection to fellow contestants, sophomore Aiyana McKee and junior Anaiah Rice, goes beyond the competition.
"They truly are like my sisters," Scaife said. "Aiyana is so sweet. She is so bright, and every time she comes into the room, she truly lights the area...And then Anaiah, she is so sweet and so caring. You have a bad day, and she is right there to help you out."
Event organizer Aaliyah Davis, who has been working on the event since last May, spoke on how it is a lot of work, but to her, it is worth it.
"Ms. Unity Pageant means, to me, like showing the grace and companionship that this community will always need and dedicate their life to,” Davis said.
