MUNCIE, Ind — Ball State is set to take on one of their biggest rivals in Miami-Ohio. This matchup has earned the name: The Red-Bird Rivalry. This matchup has been taking place since as far back as 1930, but the name “The Red-Bird Rivalry” didn’t dawn until the 1970s.
Since 1930, the Miami RedHawks lead the series with 23 wins to Ball State’s 13. Ball State has also fallen to Miami in their last four meetings. Despite the losses and a gritty win against rival Northern Illinois, there is no shortage of confidence.
“Listen, we were underdogs in the game last week, and it is what it is; nobody cares,” said head coach Mike Neu. “All we are worried about is playing the best football we can.”
It’s not just the coaching staff who is fired up. Graduate student George Udo cannot wait to get back onto the field and force more turnovers, much like he did with his interception against Northern Illinois.
“That’s what I want to do, I want to get picks, I wanna get that ball as much as I can whenever I get the opportunity,” said Udo.
This matchup is set to take place on November 5. The game is also set to stream on ESPN as one of two Maction games on election night. A win for the Cards would give them their first win against Miami-Ohio in four years and one win closer to being bowl-eligible for the first time since 2021.
