MUNCIE, Ind. --- Construction at the intersection of Wysor and Vine streets started yesterday.
The goal of the project is to help with stormwater drainage to prevent flooding. The construction is being done on behalf of the Muncie Sanitary District. This project will help prevent flooding at the Historic Depot Building, which is currently being used as the Cardinal Greenway Headquarters.
Construction will continue to be done around the city to improve drainage pipes after this intersection is completed. Until then, the road is completely blocked off and drivers must detour down Madison Street and McCulloch Boulevard, which is approximately a two-minute detour. Bowen Engineering is in charge of construction and claims that the construction will not block any businesses. In addition, all nearby businesses have posted that they will be open during the length of construction. The project manager laid out the timeframe for the construction.
“The construction will take three weeks for all of the underground piping systems and surface restoration to be completed,” Goodall said.
However, the final restoration will be ongoing until the end of November.
While the detour markings are set to direct drivers towards the designated detour route, some drivers cut through the nearby neighborhood, which while shorter, created backups and upset neighbors.
While future projects are currently unannounced, releases show that there will be more similar projects to come.
