MUNCIE, Ind.(NewsLink) -- Delta High School’s football program has had an incredibly strong start to their 2021 campaign, winning 3 of their first 4 games and having a point differential of 131-44.
The Eagles are coming off a close loss to their conference rival Yorktown. That game ended in heartbreak for the Eagles, losing 27-28 in overtime.
That is the only conference game the Eagles have played thus far, meaning they are 0-1 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference, good for 6th place overall.
On the horizon, the Eagles have a tough conference matchup this Friday against Mt. Vernon High School.
Mt. Vernon is coming off a 49-10 blowout victory against New Palestine, and they are in first place in the Conference. This David vs. Goliath matchup is a must-win for the Eagles if they want to keep their conference-winning hopes alive. A win against Mt. Vernon would catapult the Eagles into conference contention.
Looking past the Mt. Vernon matchup, the Eagles have their Homecoming game against New Castle. New Castle is 1-3 and in 7th place in the conference, but they do have a positive point differential of 150-130. This game is another big conference matchup for the Eagles, and the spotlight will be all over them.
If the Eagles can secure these two wins, they would be primed to steal the conference for the first time since the 2009 season.
