MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink) -- As February nears its end, Black History Month is at a forefront.
Black History Month celebrated the past achievements of African Americans as well as future accomplishments. Ball State University provided different outlets for Black students like Unity Week, workshops, different programs, and the move of the Multicultural Center to the heart of campus.
Associate Vice President of Inclusion Excellence, Marsha McGriff, said, “I’m fortunate to work at a place that holds that high value and if you look at our endearing values, inclusiveness is one of those endearing values, as well.”
McGriff mentioned the opportunities that the Multicultural Center also allows for students to explore all different types of identities.
To McGriff, Black History Month was a celebration every day, not just during the month of February.
“But I celebrate Black history every day. I am African American and I’m part of a long legacy...a long history of ancestors whose shoulders I stand upon.”
She wanted Black students to know that “there is a strong core of grace” and love for students at Ball State University.
McGriff also mentioned that many different programs, like the Student Government Association, are available for students to join to get more involved on campus. McGriff wants any student who is struggling or just needs someone to talk to, to reach out to her at her email mcmcgriff@bsu.edu.
