MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink) - Ball State University is making changes to its budget to adapt to the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The cuts are primarily caused by a $10 million reduction in state appropriations, resulting in the loss of 128 Ball State jobs.
Marc Ransford, university spokesperson, said that 90 of the jobs lost were vacant positions, and 38 staff members were terminated.
He said it affected “barely one percent of [Ball State’s] employee base.”
The budget cut also suspended the E.B. and Bertha C. Ball Center, former Ball family mansion located near Minnetrista. They will remain closed until as late as the spring semester of 2021.
Despite the cuts, the University maintained the second lowest tuition increase among Indiana public universities.
