MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink) -- The Delta Eagles had a successful weekend at the regional competition. Seven wrestlers are advancing to the Semi-State competition this Saturday.
Among those seven, are seniors Payne Blackburn and John Robinson.
Both Blackburn and Robinson qualified for State last year and having been stepping up as leaders this year to lead more of their teammates to that level.
“At this point it's just, I wanna take my friends with me. I wanna get everyone down there because it's an amazing experience, and I just don't wanna go down there alone” Robinson stated.
As far as the wrestling program itself goes, Delta has improved greatly.
“I can remember I first started; we had four kids at the club level. Coach Lock and I were at the middle school for about four years before we came up here to the high school level. So it's been a long process and it's been a combination of a lot of parents, a lot of excited people involved with the kids, which right now our club level has just ballooned; it's doing fantastic. We've got some great coaches down there. We've got some great coaches at the middle school level, and so it's just a building process” said Head Coach Gary Schliessman.
The Eagles will be competing Saturday, Feb. 15, at Memorial Coliseum.
