Muncie, Ind. (NewsLink) - Ball State’s music department is set to put on the Faculty Artist Series: String Faculty Showcase tomorrow.
The event will showcase the university's five string professors and their musical talents. The group plays instruments that include two violins, a viola, bass, and a cello.
To prepare for the performance the group has been practicing, as well as performing in front of small audiences. This is all not only to prepare for the showcase, but it is a part of a university outreach program.
“We go out locally to perform for community members that are not able to get out to our shows,” said Peter Opie, Professor of Cello.
Today the group performed at Grace Episcopal Church in front of a small elderly audience. The group was able to perform the entirety of Tuesday night's show for the group.
“This was nice practice for us,” said Zoran Jakovcic, Professor of Viola, “this allows us to perform [our] show from beginning to end before the actual showcase.”
The group starts off as a string trio and as the show progresses it transitions into a string quartet. Showcasing all five professors and the skill that they teach to students.
The performance will be at Sursa Performance Hall at 7:30 PM Tuesday Sept. 17. It is free and open to the public.
