Ball State student finds soulmate at Muncie Animal Care & Services

The Muncie Animal Care & Services offered a “Sweetheart Special” from Feb. 1 -14 where all adoptions were $25 for cats and dogs. To make the deal even sweeter, a pair of adult cats could be adopted for $40.

More than 50 pets were adopted from the shelter during this special, but there are more pets to be adopted. With around 230 cats available for adoption at the shelter, they are hoping to lower this number before spring arrives. They call early spring "kitten season" when there is an abundance of kittens born.

Holiday specials, like the “Sweetheart Special,” has helped the shelter increase adoptions throughout the year.

Social media is one of their biggest assets to spread the word of their specials and events. They post photos of pets on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, which helps them be successful in adoptions.

“If you adopt an animal from the shelter, you are saving two lives. The one you adopt and the one you’re making room for,” said Ashley Honeycutt, Office Manager of the Shelter.

For those who are not in the position to adopt, there are volunteer opportunities. By socializing with the animals, it cuts the stress down at the shelter.
