Ball State opened the Dr. Don Shondell Practice Center — a 19,000-square-foot practice facility that will be used by the basketball and volleyball programs — July 21. The 164th annual Delaware County Fair is running July 16-21 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Muncie. The week of events include a demolition derby, a rodeo, motocross races, truck and tractor pulls and the carnival. Rachel Ellis, DN
A multi-car collision in the area of North Cherry and West Main streets caused one car to collide with a home. The crash occurred after one car ran a stop sign. Only minor injuries were sustained. Brynn Mechem, DN
A Community Campus Event was held on June 16 at North Quad. The campus open house encouraged the community, alumni, prospective students and current students to hangout and play games, visit information booths on a variety of college programs, and take tours of facilities like The Rinard Orchid Greenhouse, The Charles W. Food trucks, breweries and bands were at Cornerstone Park on the corner of Main and Madison streets from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, June 15. Vendors included Greek’s Pizzeria, Speedy Dogs and Sea Salt & Cinnamon. In addition, The Guardian Brewing Company, New Corner Brewing Company and Books & Brews sold beer, and The Bashville Boys and Oldfield and The New Birds provided free entertainment.
The university kicked off its centennial celebrations with a community picnic Friday, June 15. This is just the first of many celebratory events throughout the centennial year.
In these photos from the Nov. 9, 1945, edition of The Ball State News, Cardinals gathered to rake leaves around campus. The tradition began during World War II when the campus saw a significant decrease in workers and male student enrollment.
Noblesville High School students waited to be picked up after being put on lockdown due to a communicative threat and a school shooting at Noblesville West Middle School Friday, May 25. Parents waited in line more than 90 minutes to pick up their kids, though superintendent Beth Niedermeyer said there would be a regular release for those students who wouldn't be able to be picked up. The 2018 Spring Commencement ceremony was held at the Quad area near the Arts Terrace on May 5, to honor students who completed their degrees. Robert G. Hunt, former CEO of Hunt Construction Group, spoke at the main commencement. Stephanie Amador, DN
Community members gathered on the Washington Street Bridge April 26 for the annual Muncie's Bridge Dinner for food, drinks, art and live music. This was the second Muncie's Bridge Dinner.
Pan-African Youth Leadership Program allows students from Africa to live with host families for two weeks to experience American living. Adam Kahindi and Chemwemwe Jussa got to stay with the Robey family.
Cinderella will be played by Ball State's Dance and Theatre Department. Opening night is April 25 at 7:30 P.M.
Students, faculty and Muncie community members gathered outside the C-1 lot outside Worthen for the 15th annual Late Nite Carnival April 20. Pre-registered attendants were allowed entry at 6 p.m. and the doors opened to all guests from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
The Cardinals took on Central Michigan in a double header April 21 at the softball field at First Merchant's Ballpark Complex. Ball State won both games 2 to 1.
More than 2,000 people attended the Columbus Pride Festival April 14 in Columbus, Indiana. Erin Bailey, a senior at Columbus Signature Academy-New Tech High School, organized the event to show that the hometown of Vice President Mike Pence is a welcoming place for the LGBTQ community.
