23rd Taste of Muncie features 23 restaurants

More than 500 people sampled 23 Muncie restaurants on Sunday at the 23rd annual Taste of Muncie at Cornerstone Center for the Arts. The fundraising event included 23 eateries offering samples, live entertainment and raffle prizes given out by the vendors.



IFC, PHC combine for philanthropy

The Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils, teamed with other student organizations, are signing up people for an event to raise awareness about unclean water and sewage issues in third world countries. BEHOPETOHER is put together by NURU International, a nonprofit group that "exists to eradicate extreme poverty by holistically empowering rural communities to achieve self-sufficiency and inspiring the developed world to confront the crisis of extreme poverty," according to its Web site.


BASEBALL: Cards break 5-game skid

After dropping the first game of a doubleheader against Central Michigan University 12-8, Ball State University baseball coach Greg Beals challenged his team to end its five-game losing streak and get back on track in the Mid-American Conference. The motivation worked and Ball State (16-17) played a close to flawless game, winning 12-4.


Student is finalist in singing competition

Brendan Nusbaum's hobby of singing in the shower has given him the chance to win a national competition and $5,000. Garnier Fructis' Sing in the Shower Contest, which teamed up with American Idol to sponsor the singing contest, received thousands of online entries.


WOMEN'S TENNIS: Ball State finishes MAC play winless

After losing a pair of matches this past weekend to give the Ball State University women's tennis team its first winless Mid-American Conference season since 1989, coach Kathy Bull sent a text message. The message told her team the 2009 regular season is done.



OUR VIEW: Mishandled threat

Saturday morning's bomb threat at LaFollette Complex was not handled properly. Students were not informed of the situation until after the threat had subsided. The police handled the situation well and did their jobs effectively, however, the university's lack of communication to students is unacceptable.


SOFTBALL: Cardinals clinch spot in MAC Tournament

The Ball State University softball team came into the weekend in first place in the Mid-American Conference West Division and came out of the weekend in the same place. The Cardinals played host to the No. 2 and 3 teams in the MAC West this past weekend and went 3-1 in the two doubleheaders, sweeping Northern Illinois University on Friday and splitting with Western Michigan University on Saturday.



Conference discusses Midwest economy

Saturday was the last day of the sixth annual Small Cities Conference, an event comprised of 11 sessions and two lectures by keynote speakers with the aim of discussing ways cities in the Midwest can break through barriers and increase the area's economic power.


Students dress in drag for Cirque du So Gay

For one night, it was socially acceptable for a guy to stuff a dollar bill down another man's blouse in public. Spectrum held its annual drag show in Ball Gym Saturday. This year's show, Cirque du So Gay, had a circus theme and featured members of Spectrum performing songs while dressed in drag.



Students upset with communication

Many LaFollette Complex residents are unhappy with the way police agencies and Ball State University handled the bomb threat to the area early Saturday morning. Freshman Asia Jureczko said she was in her room and yelled down to police, asking them what was happening.

Taste of Muncie plans for large crowd

The 23rd Annual Taste of Muncie comes to Cornerstone Center for the Arts tonight. Guests can pay $15 to sample food from 23 local vendors.
