MEN'S TENNIS: 4 Cardinals earn All-MAC honors, 2 for first time

Four Ball State University men's tennis players earned All-Mid-American Conference honors for the 2009 season, the MAC announced today. BASEBALL: Rain helps Boilers beat Cards

A dreary, rain-soaked afternoon produced a sloppy baseball game between Ball State University and Purdue University. The Boilermakers (18-21, 5-9 Big Ten) topped the Cardinals 14-6 in eight innings, giving Ball State (19-19, 8-8 Mid-American Conference) its first loss to a Big Ten school this season.


Living their dreams

For two Ball State University students, the dream of riding in a red engine and fighting fires has become a reality. Senior marketing major Sta's Daszkiewicz said he met senior public relations major Dave Gans their freshman year and quickly became friends.


A world apart

The Prism Project is funded through an immersive learning grant provided by the Office of the Provost. The program uses the performing arts to help children with special needs explore and develop their social skills. This is a first-hand account of some of my favorite moments while taking pictures at the project the past three months.

OUR VIEW: Summer days

Tuition rates and parking prices. Both of these issues play a large role in students' lives, and both are announced during the summer. Tuition rates are announced every summer, and few are on campus to hear the news via the Daily News. Previous summer Daily News staff members have worked diligently to find out why Parking Services unexpectedly and without warning to students increased the cost at the meters.


Ball State will not add lacrosse any time soon

Although it has tried, a team on the Ball State University campus will not gain membership into the athletics department anytime soon. The Ball State lacrosse team, which is a club sport at the university, petitioned the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics to add it to its list of teams.

Students send three to Liberia

Swine flu breaks out

The chance of a swine influenza pandemic coming to Ball State University is minimal, but university leaders aren't going to let their guard down, administrators said Monday. Dr. Kent Bullis, medical director for Ball State's Amelia T. Wood Health Center, said the students who need to worry most about the swine flu are those who have a fever of at least 100.



BASEBALL: Sophomore named Player of the Week

Leading the Ball State University baseball team to a 20-8 upset of No. 23 Ohio State University and a 3-1 record last week, sophomore Kolbrin Vitek was honored as the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week. Vitek hit .588 with 11 RBI, seven runs, six doubles and three home runs for the week.

INDIANAPOLIS - A young adult from northern Indiana has the state's first confirmed case of swine flu, but the state health commissioner says the person is "doing well." Health Commissioner Judy Monroe said Tuesday the person was a young adult from northern Indiana, but released no other details.

The season might be done for Ball State University's men's tennis team, but the 2010 season starts right after the school year ends. With summer vacation, the eight returning tennis players on Ball State's roster will hit the road playing individual tournaments.
