Reality Check

Documenting Docs: Olympia

Recently I talked about Leni Riefenstahl’s Triumph of the Will, and no, we still aren’t done with her yet. This time we are going to look at her less controversial and infinitely more interesting film: Olympia.

Growing pains of a growing eSports audience

“It was like I was invalidated because I am a girl and ‘girls don’t play League,’ when most of the people I know are women that play League” Wilson said. “I decided to stop posting about things. I stopped engaging with other community members that I didn’t know personally.”

‘The Strangers: Prey at Night’ is another slash at a dying genre

'The Strangers: Prey at Night' is a cookie-cutter slasher film that still manages to hold a decent amount of charm. Director Johannes Roberts seems to get lost in an aesthetic that only works about half the time, but makes up for it with compelling characters. While it loses the excitement and innovation that its predecessor 'The Strangers' has, it still manages to be an enjoyable watch.

The Coven S4E3: Let’s Talk Loli

TRIGGER WARNING: Pedophilia We’re back witches, with another magical episode of the Coven Podcast. This week, we’re looking at the loli trend, or the fetishization of young girls in anime. Where do you draw the line between real girls and animated girls when it comes to pedophilia? Is loli a “healthy” alternative to being sexually attracted to children? Be prepared, because we talk about some serious topics in this episode of The Coven.

The Walking Dead Season 8, Episode 10: “The Lost and the Plunderers”

“Dead or Alive Or” is the definition of a bad episode. Next to nothing happens to further the plot, God saves the gang far too many times to be believable in any sense of the word, none of the characters are likeable besides Dwight, and worst of all Eugene is still alive. Whether you call it fluff, padding, or filler, this episode has nothing up its sleeve and only serves to waste time.

Animation A-Team S4E5: a new Studio Ghibli?

When Studio Ponoc released Mary and the Witch’s Flower, we all thought, could this be the rebirth of Studio Ghibli? Or is it just Ghibli lite? Join us this week on Animation A-Team as we take a look at what these Ghibli alums are up to, and what this film means for the future of animation.

‘Into the Breach’ is a brilliant bite-sized battle with giant bugs

'Into the Breach' is an amazing strategy game that manages to use its small scale to great effect. The missions are fast-paced, but the twist on the typical strategy game objectives means that a whole new world of completing missions is opened up. The music and aesthetic are appropriately fantastic for Subset Games and improves upon their previous work. And while long gaming sessions can be a detriment to the game’s quality, in short bursts this game is an amazing experience. Finally, the game creates a whole new world of empathy that I never expected from a game like this. For the price, it’s definitely worth the hours upon hours that can be dumped into this game.

‘Annihilation’ is a slow burning, surreal experience

'Annihilation' is a surreal yet excellent experience, with its strengths being excellent performances by the cast, beautiful visuals, and unnerving atmosphere. However, it is also not a movie for the average moviegoer and requires another viewing to get a better understanding of it. All in all, it is another success for Alex Garland.
