'Overwatch' pro team fires manager after sexual assault allegations

In what might be the quickest turn-around between allegation and repercussion, the manager of Overwatch e-sports team San Francisco Shock Max Bateman was let go just 14 hours after the abuse allegations were shared over Twitter.

A woman under the handle Krystlin had tweeted that Bateman had sexually assaulted her in September after giving her a drink that made her go “in and out of consciousness” and driving her back to his home.

Andy Miller, owner of the Shock, said that Bateman had been fired under the NRG Esport’s zero tolerance policy regarding such allegations. NRG has not commented on the issue, instead just referring back to Miller’s statement.

Bateman also tweeted to Krystlin, calling her sexual assault allegations “not 100% true.” Late last night, Bateman released a brief statement through Twitter.

In the statement, Bateman defends himself by pointing out that Krystlin was apparently willing to stay in the same hotel room as him even after the alleged assault. He ended the statement saying that he would not be answering questions about the incident, as recommended by his lawyer.
